Curbishley, Billy Davies (always did well on a shoestring), Dave Jones, Poyet (probably wont leave Brighton), Lee Clarke... All viable options... If any of them have any sense, they wont get involved while Bates is at the helm...

All of these might and probabily would do a good job at Leeds. However, Looking at Bates' recent actions leads me to believe that he'll be looking at Iain Dowie. ......... Bugg*r. If not it'll be Gianfranco Zola or Roberto Di Matteo.

I'm torn. Only time will tell if this is a good decision but my instinct is that a new manager stands little chance of getting much more out of a squad that has had its most influential players removed (Howson, Gradel, etc.). If someone can come in and get Bechio to take his chances, immediately make experienced men out of the boys (not a dig just a fact) we have in defence I'll be amazed. Not sure any manager is going to get LUFC promoted under the current conditions.

You could hear, I believe, in the interview Grayson gave after the game last night - for the first time - that he was exasperated at having to work towards promotion with no budget for anything more than loans and then come out and make like he was doing things as he would want. It felt he was on the verge of saying what he really wanted to instead of toeing the line. "What the hell do you expect when we sell our player and I'm not given a budget to BUY replacements?!"

I hope Grayson comes out and tells it how it really was/is but I doubt he will as that isn't a good look for someone looking for another job. Maybe he will in a few years time....

Or maybe he really is not good enough and deserved the sack. Let's see how the new man copes (and who the new man is as that will say a lot about the set up at Leeds, I think - who is willing to work with Bates) and how well he does and then we can properly judge Grayson's crack at it. My feeling is that Grayson did a very good job considering...

Did not think that he was good enough to get the best out of his squad, but had no support from rubbish coaches and dealing with Bates must be a nightmare. So I am torn to a degree, but now a new manager will be hamstrung with the window now closed to him.

I think it speaks volumes about Bates - someone on here called it yesterday that Grayson would be gone after the Brum game because it would mean the new manager would have no time to influence / spend money...

I dont think Grayson was the problem, said it all along I like him as a manager, and he was doing the best he could with what he had, but I like a lot felt it was time for a change - only if someone can come in and add to what Grayson had done. Im still not sure that person is out there - especially with this squad. Bates is basically saying by doing this he's accepted we arent going to get promoted otherwise he would have done this a couple of weeks ago and given the new guy money to spend / build a squad capable of getting promoted...

But then we all know Bates has his eye on new executive boxes and not new players...

Got goosebumps reading this, not sure why.. got a mixture of emotions.

Love the guy and he loves us, but it really was time to go, he's done all he can and has left us in an ok position.

It's all down to Bates now, top managers are like top players, you have to pay quite a bit.. I have a bad feeling he's going to let Redfearn take over until the end of the season.. hopefully not.

The timing is deliberate.

A new manager at the start of the month would have wanted to spend money, which Bates was never going to let happen. A new manager might have persuaded Howson to stay, so Bates wouldn't have had that cash boost either.

Bringing one in now is ideal (for Bates) - it takes the spotlight off his failure to invest.
