Cjay wrote: Tue Feb 03, 2026 5:30 pm Ortega definitely is.

Netz is a player Farke managed in Germany whose got more top league games and assists than Guds despite being a few years younger.

Better is up to opinion?

But better than our backup left back? Probably

It also just shows the different attitude, we've had a leaked piece from the club waffling on about right profile and harmony etc.

Forest had an injured goalie and suspended left back, replaced both in days.
Is Ortega better, probably but similar to Darlow he has been a back up for a long while. If we got him in and he had a couple of bad performances where does it leave us in terms of who to pick. You also have to get him used to the defenders around him.

Netz may be better than our back up left back but is he significantly better to sign him on a 3 or 4 year deal? If we signed him where does it leave GG?

Credit to Forest for replacing their players nearly as quickly as they replace their managers. It is just the way that club is run, sign en masse. If they go down they could be in huge trouble financially. I am sure we are plannign things based on the worst case scenario so that if we do go down we are in a good position to come straight back up.

Another excellent piece of common sense writing by Beren, The Athletic did really well when they had to get someone in to replace Phil Hay, same cannot be said about the YEP.

Stefan Ortega is a better goalie than we have and a starting Bundesliga left back for £2mil
And Luca Nets has played for Farke in Germany. Forest stole those two players, which proves deals can be done without spending a fortune. Makes you wonder why we weren't in for those two players at that price?

But we were prepared to blow 40 million on JSL!

Dreadful recruitment team.

Why did we not ship players out that are never going to used this season? Meslier, Cairns, Byram, Gnonto, Piroe, Tanaka?

The usual  coughed up by the club's mouthpiece Beren Cross, he's on the payroll.

We have 2 wins from our last 10 matches and 6 points from our last 6.

That was an abject pitiful surrender against Arsenal, and for me that was down to Farke reverting to type and playing 9 defensive players.

If you take out the Newcastle match we've scored 4 goals in our last 6 matches.

This to me is down to Farke whose gone back to defensive mode, DCL is now a non-factor as we've stopped playing someone up top with him. Farke needs to turn this round on Friday night, so sitting back and trying to hang on against a bottom 4 team ain't gonna cut it.

We have managed one win from all our away matches and that was against Wolves.

Difference imo between Ortega and Darlow though aside from the fact Ortega has played over 100 more games and been a number 1 far longer is he's done it at the top level.

Bundesliga and for Man City.

Netz may or may not be better than Guds (is definitely better than any backup left back we have however) but aside from that it's the price.

£2mil, even if he flops Forest will make a profit, same for Ortega.

For our sake I hope they both flop

I don't think they can give Meslier away tbf

I expect Gnonto sold in the summer and maybe Tanaka.

Owners will see a lot of psr profit and with no academy players to flog *was their first choice according to the stuff in the summer) I'd expect them and Struijk as well out the door.

Why weren't we in for them? Maybe we didn't know.

That agent I forget his name but does the occasional podcast made a point of saying before how contacts are huge in football.

Who are Adam Underwood's? Doubt he has any.

Shrewd business by Forest. They have Sels who is way better than any of our goalkeepers, and still brought Ortega in to compete for the number one shirt. Netz would provide more than adequate cover and competition for GG who is just coming back from injury.

But we don't have a recruitment team that is anywhere near the level of Forest and Sunderland.

Yeah, it's laughable! Look at the money they lashed out on the much heralded donkey Sean Longstaff, no other EPL club was the slightest bit interested in him.

Obviously, West Ham doing everything they can to avoid relegation.

The one that stands out to me, from that list, is Palace. That’s a lot of money to spend when, presumably, they don’t know who their manager is going to be come the summer.

6 points from 6 matches, keep that ratio going and we should be okay.

Worse than Cjay for twisting stats - yeah just let's take out the match that we scored 3 goals in so you can have a go about the amount of goals scored. If you take away our 6 wins this season we haven't won a match.

I do agree that Farke has gone a bit too defensive of late - however I felt the team selected against Newcastle was too defensive and we scored 3 so what do I know!

Kiko Casilla started around 25 matches for Real Madrid and 115 matches for Espanyol in La Liga.

The thing that doesn't make sense is that if the German club selling Netz thought they could get more than £2m surely they would have touted him about and started some sort of bidding war. With the transfer going through at the end of the window it would suggest they had been trying to sell him for more. No idea why he hasn't gone for more given his supposed pedigree.

Seems Subhuman's continued attacks on Longstaff have swayed some people. Longstaff seemed to be getting decent reviews before his injury.

Fair dos. I think he was a safe and steady signing. Prem experience, english, 6 or 7 out of 10 most weeks etc.

Fair point about Casilla but Ortega is still a more experienced number 1 than even him (by quite a bit).

I don't think they wanted to sell Mönchengladbach, had been trying to get him to sign a new deal.

Maybe they decided to take the cash late.

I still think though that it would be unlikely that they then think, "okay he's not going to sign let's ring Forest up but nobody else."

As I say he seems a bargain but....

We don’t sign anyone - the window is a failure.

We sign players - I don’t rate them. Window is a failure.

We sign players - I rate him - turns out to be underwhelming. Window is a failure.

X has signed Joe Bloggs - why didn’t we sign him. Turns out to be distinctly average ( never mentioned again ). Window is a failure.

Think that covers the options that are a frequent discourse.

Meslier off to Besiktas apparently.
