Davide Somma
Is this the reason why we are not going for a striker?
Apparently he had a good game tonight so i hear could he be the dark horse?
Anyone see him play at Lincoln, know he scored frequently but got sent off in last game so will be banned for first game.
Is he quick? Opinions

We have two options then - Somma who has had a handful of games for a L2 side but never played at a higher levelTwiggster wrote:Simon said he is NOT going back on loan next season, on LUTV comm this eve, post game.

or
Hooper who has scored 54 goals in 99 games for an average team in the last two season
And you fancy the first option Billy as oppose to a proven goalscorer at Championship level
We sold Delph & never replaced him, a worrying trend i fear
We start the season without our best two players from 2009/10 in Beckford & Kisnorbo, oh & we are playing at a higher level
We go into the new season with Paynter, Becchio, Grella & Somma, god help us folks

How much money did we make in 2009/10, we don't know the exact figure as it won't be disclosed until 2011 but the amount will be huge & we cannot even afford to splash out for a decent striker to replace our best player Beckford.

Leon, I think you're being a bit extreme here; it isn't just a choice between Somma and Hooper.1964white wrote: We have two options then - Somma who has had a handful of games for a L2 side but never played at a higher level

Somma had a good loan spell at Lincoln, SG says that he went on loan to get goals and games and that he won't be going out on loan again, so we effectively have a new player this season. (Compare with Beckford going to Carlisle and Scunthorpe).
But none of that means that it's a straight choice between Somma and Hooper. I am sure that SG is looking to bring in another striker for the new season, and with a more confident Somma we just have an extra option.
I trust Simon, I think he knows what he's doing.
I dislike Bates as much as the next man, but there is no hint that Simon feels he is not getting whatever backing he needs - otherwise why would he have signed another contract yesterday? It's not because he's a fan, it's because he thinks that he has the tools to do a job here.

Martyn we were informed 4 months ago that we had targets in mind, we all knew Beckford was leaving Leeds 6 months ago including our management who gave the impression that signings would be concluded early to beat our competitors which could suggest we are not looking for another strikerGuildford White wrote: Leon, I think you're being a bit extreme here; it isn't just a choice between Somma and Hooper.

We have let two quality players leave the club in Delph & Beckford & not replaced them with similar qualities which is a major concern in my mind
Grayson has done a great job & we all place our trust & faith in our manager but he has made some disastrous loan signings.

Re: Davide Somma
Grayson never said we would go out and find a player that is the exact same type as Beckford. Infact he said that they where working with Becchio, and trying to get him into the box more. This does sound like Grayson's plan was to replace Beckford with a change in the style off play. So it would look like the traget he talked about, was Paynter, and he is going to play with eighter Becchio or Paynter, and having Grella or Somma dropping back to be part of the build up1964white wrote:

My friend, it's time that you stopped believing everything, or indeed anything, that Bates says.1964white wrote: Martyn we were informed 4 months ago that we had targets in mind, we all knew Beckford was leaving Leeds 6 months ago including our management who gave the impression that signings would be concluded early to beat our competitors which could suggest we are not looking for another striker

Look at his entire business career, from Howarth thorough Wickam's Cay, the Bank of Anegada, the Irish Trust Bank, The International Trust Group, Trafalgar Travel, Oldham Athletic and Chelsea. Then tell me one reason that anyone should ever trust or believe this man.
He makes a living through the losses of his creditors - putting Leeds into administration and buying it back immediately so that he retained all the assets while wiping out his debts was not a novel idea, it's his modus operandi.
You can only do that if you have creditors willing to lend, so he paints pretty pictures to encourage people such as your good self to voluntarily become creditors by paying for season tickets in advance. That's why the impression is given that we need just that little bit more money to land those major signings that are just around the corner.
The day he leaves Leeds for the last time will rival only Thatcher's death as a cause for celebration.

If we buy Hooper will you be shouting abuse at him if he fails to reach the standards you have set for Somma?
Or are you by any chance not the manager of Leeds United?

Re: Davide Somma
With 5 strikers already in the squad we really need to strenghen the middle of the park. Strikers need distibution from the midfield and Simon should be focusiing on this area

I'm excited by the fact that SG thinks Somma could play a role for us this season. Saying that he will definitely not be going out on loan this season is a massive vote of confidence for him!
