Alex Mowatt
According to a few of to-days papers Leeds can expect bid from a number of clubs for him in January it seems Everton,Villa and West Ham have been watching lately. Will be interesting to see if Cellino turns them down or will he cash in.

Re: Alex Mowatt
Wouldn't be surprised if people are talking about him. He is certainly one we need to hang on to though and with Redders in charge hopefully our youth players will have the time and menoting they need to develop.1964white wrote:

3 goals in 2 games, the papers love to latch on to those stats and make a story.

I don't see Cellino as the reincarnation of Bates, so I'm hoping that we no longer have a business model of developing talent to sell it on. He may be crazy, but I think Cellino does have a vision and the likes of Mowatt, Cook and Byram are key parts of that.

He sold McCormack because it was an offer too good to refuse, lets face it No.44 was only worth around half that fee !

Re: Alex Mowatt
Judging by Cellino's numerous midfield signings, I don't think his vision did include Mowatt, Cook or Dawson but they sure have made their stake as part of his plans.Martyn wrote:I don't see Cellino as the reincarnation of Bates, so I'm hoping that we no longer have a business model of developing talent to sell it on. As for the links; they picked a handful of mid-table Premier League teams to link White to a few seasons ago. Same for Byram. The papers know going with Chelsea/City/Arsenal is too unrealistic, QPR/Burnley/Leicester isn't enough of a story.

If he had turned down that money for McCormack he would have gone from crazy to certifiable.1964white wrote:

Having said which, if anyone offered £11Million for Mowatt he should sell, we have other options - as mango (or was it Harry?

Re: Alex Mowatt
Cellino's philosophy has always been to sell when he feels the market value is at its highest so I have no doubt that at some point our best players will be sold but, as shown with RMC, it will be for top value rather than previous regimes who sold prize assets for peanuts. If we don't get into the prem then sadly there is no way we can hold onto our best talents - once we do then realistically it would only be the likes of top few teams that could tempt away our players rather than the Villas, Burnleys, Norwiches etc.

Re: Alex Mowatt
Southampton have proved you can sell your best players for top value but still achieve provided you have that conveyor of young players coming through. I also think they know when to stop and tend to keep hold of some key players when needed, they never leave themselves bare. The key of course is to invest that money back in the development system.weasel wrote:Cellino's philosophy has always been to sell when he feels the market value is at its highest so I have no doubt that at some point our best players will be sold but, as shown with RMC, it will be for top value rather than previous regimes who sold prize assets for peanuts. One of our major problems recently had been that the likes of Man City sign more young talent from the Leeds area than Leeds do. Not necessarily because they are a bigger draw than us but because we cut down so much on youth/community coaches and scouting.

Re: Alex Mowatt
I'm seriously impressed with what Southampton have achieved this season, given the number and quality of players they sold in the summer

Re: Alex Mowatt
It's hard to think of another recent example where a team has sold all it's so-called-best players to so-called-better teams and, not only became a better team, but are performing exceptionally better than those 'better' teams.Martyn wrote:I'm seriously impressed with what Southampton have achieved this season, given the number and quality of players they sold in the summer
No issues what so ever with selling our best players if the money is right, and it falls within a strategy. Think what Mowatt could provide in the next few years and how costly/difficult it would be to get in a similar replacement. Think it's best for both Mowatt and the club that he plies his trade in the Championship for a few seasons. The premier league is unforgiving when it comes to youth players. Plus in a season or two, when he has more experience and assuming we aren't back up, he'll have a bigger price tag.

Cant see redders allowing them to leave, or atleast lie down whilst someone else tries.
