Watched the highlights and there were some definite plusses. What we have to remember is that Leeds under Bielsa, in his first season, didn't look particularly good and then against Stoke it was wow - there was nothing in the pre-season friendlies to suggest that the Stoke performance was on its way.
Ampadu looks a better defensive midfielder than Adams, likely has better reading of the game in terms of knowing where the danger will be when he finds himself in a defender's position. He took up a superb position to block a cross. Seems like he is more comfortable on the ball than Adams too. I love Adams's workrate and energy but someone reading the game better won't need to do that as they will be in the right position. Hopefully Ampadu can be that player.
Dan James seemed to get slated but put in 2 excellent crosses and also another decent one too. Could easily have had a couple of assists despite being 'anonymous' according to some. Good to see his interview post match too as he seems happy to be here.
Didn't see enough of anything else to really assess but definitely seem to be some positives. Farke has only been here a couple of weeks but is coming accross well and looks like he has got a very good grasp of the situation people can go on about the strength of the french league but Monaco are a decent club and although I don't know much about them I would think that compared to us their squad is much more established and the players far more used to playing with each other.
You see the same things as me.
So hopefully that tells me about his game, the fact he was there, the fact he read the play, hopefully he's a baller.

Wouldn't mind seeing Sam return, if only a short term deal. Be nice to have another homegrown player at the club, along with Cresswell, Gray and Shacks. No doubt in my mind, that's where we went wrong last year, in not having any homegrown players involved who show desire for the club.
Btw Arsenal lost 2-0 to scum. Wonder if their fans are demanding an entire new team too?

But there again they did finish 2nd in the Premier League last year, having been pipped to the post by Megabucks Citeh, after having lead it for most of the season, and will be playing in The Champions league next season as usual.

A slightly different situation to us I think!
Just checked one of their forums and some are already calling Rice and Havertz a waste of money, so maybe so.

Arsenal have a wonderful amount of talent, whereas our squad is looking threadbare & lacking quality in several positions with only two weeks to go before the championship commences. We may have to wait until the end of August to see how our squad develops, hopefully Farke is going to pull a few red-hot irons out of the fire.
We need at least two or three decent signings at the very least in the next couple of weeks.

It was a similar level to our PL team beating the likes of Cardiff, Accrington & Barnsley in the cups last season.

Agreed but don't let that stop the crybabies. We also put 5 past Cardiff last season, with most of these players, and supposedly, the worst manager who ever lived.
