Preston v Leeds Utd

Tuesday 22nd October 2019 19.45 | Deepdale

Leeds travel to neighbouring Lancashire on Tuesday evening to play promotion rivals Preston at Deepdale. The Lilywhites currently occupy the last play off place with 21 points, two less than Leeds. Preston have scored 23 goals; more than any other Championship team. Their downfall is their defence. They have conceded 13 times, almost double the number Leeds have relinquished.

Leeds will be looking to build on their 1-0 victory over Birmingham at the weekend, and currently occupy second place, two points behind the Baggies. Although Leeds can't be criticised for their work rate, their natural game did not flow. They did not look like scoring until Harrison took advantage of a Birmingham playing slipping over, passing the ball to Philips who fired the ball past Camp. Marcelo Bielsa confirmed he will start with the same side that beat Birmingham on Saturday, Pablo Hernandez is likeley to miss the game with a hamstring injury picked up on his comeback game for the U23s. It means Leeds will remain with one up top but with Bamford and Nketiah individually drawing blanks again is it time for Bielsa to sacrifice a midfielder and play both forwards together?

Highlights | Preston North End 0-2 Leeds United | 9th April 2019

Preston have won just one of their past nine league matches against Leeds United (D2 L6), a 3-1 victory in April 2018. Leeds are looking to record consecutive away league wins against Preston for the first time, with this their 27th visit there. Leeds have not lost three consecutive away league matches since losing their final four of the 2017-18 season under Paul Heckingbottom.

Leeds Starting XI:
Casilla, Ayling (c), White, Berardi, Alioski, Phillips, Klich, Dallas, Costa, Harrison, Bamford

This isn't going to be easy.

Preston have the best attack in the league and we have the best defence.

Preston also have the best home form in the league.

Played 6 won 5 drawn 1 lost 0 scored 18 conceded 6.

Don't know what to expect, not confident.

They haven't lost at home in 8 games.

Although, the last team to beat Preston at home was . . . . . . . . . us. 2-0 on April 9th.

Articles like these are doing my head in, They are just disruptive
and just want to ferment trouble. If it is not one thing it is another
Leeds will get no peace this season.

Former England striker Darren Bent has warned Leeds United boss
Marcelo Bielsa that if the current treatment of striker Eddie Nketiah
continues Arsenal will likely recall the 20-year-old in January.

Unai Emery has played down any fears about Eddie Nketiah’s
loan spell at Leeds United.

What I would like to see is Dallas and Ayling on the right
and Alioski and Harrison on the left. I would then put Roberts
in the no10 position and drop Klich back into a more defensive role
for which I think he is more suited in the absence of Forshaw.

Forget about this interminable debate of whether to put Paddy
or Eddie up front. Goals are not coming from the strikers they are coming
from other positions on the pitch.

Looking forward to catching the boys tonight, expecting a tight affair - never an easy place to go but we are more than capable of a result.
