Surprised Depeche Mode didn't get a shout? It was a toss up between that and Weller for me

I love DM but just never got into that album. In fact, after the Black Celebration, Music for the Masses and Violator era, when they really established a distinct sound, I always felt SoFaD was DM trying to be a little grungy. Similarly, after the Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum and Acting Baby, U2's Zooropa in the same year always sounded to me like they were trying too hard to be a little dancey.White Riot wrote: ↑Sat Oct 01, 2022 2:03 pm Surprised Depeche Mode didn't get a shout? Yeah, SOFAD wasn't as strong an album as the ones you mention, I really liked Violator and 101 too. Saw them at the NEC on the Violator tour and they were awesome.Mountain wrote: ↑Sat Oct 01, 2022 4:45 pm I love DM but just never got into that album. Yeah, agree with U2, but they aren't my cuppa anyway. It's all a bit AOR, corporate and just a money machine. But I thought they were ok early on.
