In their first team squad: Mason Mount, Conor Gallacher, Armando Broja , Trevor Chalobah, Ruben Loftus Cheek and Reece James, they have had Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori having moved to Italy and doing really well, Billy Gilmour and Tariq Lamptey playing for Brighton. Additonally the likes of DeBruyne, Lukaku and Salah bought in as advanced youngsters but sold before they made a real impact.

That for me is what I se us as trying to do, singing promising youngsters (like Chelsea did with Salah and DeBruyne) having some players make it to our first team and others that aren't good enough for us but hopefully good enough to be sold to bring some money back into the club.
I missed a ton from Chelsea tbf but the money that has taken and the amount of players (literally hundreds over the decades since Terry), the ratio is still low (which was all I was trying to say).

We have always been trying to emulate City and Chelsea to some degree even in the Championship which was always a source of frustration for me.

Sort the first team first.

The money it would take to get that calibre of players for what would still be a relatively low success rate is totally out of our reach.

Chelsea and City hoover up the best prospects from across the globe and yet still see a success to failure rate of pretty stark numbers I'd imagine.

What chance do we have of making it successful with our very limited resources?

Reiterate I am not knocking the kids, they are what they are, not without talent I'm sure.

But the policy is what I question.

That's all

For the price of Rodrigo, I'd rather have Gelhardt, Gnonto, Perkins, Greenwood, Summerville, Gyabi, Hjelde, Strujik, Meslier, Drameh. And there's still money left over.

An extreme case I know. Agree that we need more pieces to fill in first team gaps. But at times we'll get better value from our young signings.

The percentage wise in terms of success will be low but as AndrewJohnSmith points out you can get a lot of young players for the cost of a Rodrigo. If a couple turn out decent then it is money well spent.

We're not aiming, at present, to be City or Chelsea as evidenced by us taking a player from each of those clubs in the last year, players that presumably weren't going to make it at those clubs. But it is easier for someone to be good enough for our team than it is to get into the City or Chelsea team, as shown by DeBruyne, Lukaku, Salah and countless other having to go out on loan or move to other clubs.

For me the key to our success lies in giving young players a chance in the first team as it then encourages other youngsters and agents to send players to us - much in the same way that young players go to Red Bull clubs or Dortmund as they know that they will get the chance to play. Frustrating though when we i see someone such as Gelhardt not being given a chance when we have all seen that he has been able to do well in the premier league. We'll never know whether he can consistently play as well as he had shown in flashes if he isn't given a fair chance.

Our young players will be fine in the championship, even better in League One.

Would be happy to see that - players like Cresswell, Bate, Gelhardt, Summerville, Greenwood and more running the Championship. Sad thing is I won't get to watch the championship if we go down.

How do we know that when they have played nowhere near the PL level?

Three yellow cards for Boro' & two for Leeds in the last quarter of the first-half

McCalmont strikes the crossbar with a curling effort.

A hatrick for Matteo Joseph in a 4-2 win.
Very impressive.

Sounds like McCalmont and McGurk both had good games.

Good comeback, Chilli

Had to leave the game at half-time.

I sometimes wish you'd get your wish and see them in the Prem, who knows Joseph might make the WC squad.

Did Gnonto play all/most of the game? If so then I guess we won't see him play any minutes tomorrow with the seniors. Looks like another 5 minute cameo for Gelhardt then.

Didn't see the game - great result. More positives for Joseph and a few others

One concern I read on Leeds Live:

Wilfried Gnonto: Looked someway short of his best. 5

I would think too that playing 45 would mean he's not planned to be in the squad tomorrow - Unless there's an injury
