You go to spend a day in the sun drinking beer and waiting for the few moments of absolute athletic brilliance - which you often miss because you've dozed off after your 6th beer.
A friend of mine says the game has a fundamental flaw - players in the outfield should not have catching mitts - catch the ball with your hands you wimps! I think he's right. But when it sparks it is a great old game. It also has lots of tradition - especially in cities like Boston, New York and Chicago.

But the NFL is simply contrived nonsense with no redeeming features. A 60 minute game can actually take longer than a 9 innings baseball game. It consists of 10 seconds of wild acton and grunting, followed by a bunch of chest bumping, some dude in his underwear running on and throwing down a little flag..... a cycle which is then repeated ad nauseam.
Sounds like my sex life although how you found out about my flag guy I will never know....

NFL I've watched since 1982 Malcolm, when they first started showing weekly highlights on Channel 4. Followed the Redskins since then.

I lived in Canada for 7 years, so like watching ice hockey, but the time difference means it's hard to watch it live in Europe.

Baseball, a bit boring to me, but used to follow the Bluejays.

Basketball is the one I could never get into, but did follow the Raptors when I lived in Canada.

Interesting. I just can't get into football. I have been to a few games to give it a try. I agree on basketball - I can appreciate the skill and athleticism, but its just all back and forth - don't understand the strategy.
I do enjoy hockey - but only once the playoffs start. There are too many games - each team plays over 80 in the regular season. Its crazy.
I assume you lived in Toronto? I spent 4 years there (enjoyed it) but spent most of the past 30 years in BC - Vancouver and 13 years in Victoria where I am now.
But we all know what really unites us!

Way too much information! But I will say .... you have me intrigued.

Another thing about US football - what's with the grease smear on each cheek? (Supposedly for the glare - oh FFS.)

Now if you tell me that's also part of your sex life, I'm going to get a bit worried.

Like Yoda in Star Wars, he becomes a visible ghost upon dying.

You'll just need to become a Jedi knight to be able to see/speak with him.

I don't think i'll ever be convinced it's not Rounders.

To even attempt to put it in the same bracket as cricket is a travesty.

You're right - I got a bit carried away there. Its a sad excuse for cricket. But I will say - those boys can throw.

GreennWhite wrote: ↑Tue May 16, 2023 4:50 pm Baseball a good watch ??? Went to my first Baseball game the other day. Philadelphia Phillies v Toronto Blue Jays. Game lasted just over 3 hours. 2 hours 50 minutes of nothing happening and about 15 minutes of excitement at the end ( it went to sudden death as there are no tied games )
The fans seem to treat the game as a social event, not really paying too much interest in what's actually going on in the game. They sit around chatting, eating and drinking and occasionally watch the game :)
Actually it was more interesting than i thought it was going to be, plus the weather was great 8-)
Yep, that was my experience. 7 innings of chatting, eating and drinking, then a lot of interest in a race between people dressed as tools (a hammer, a saw etc), then two innings where the fans watched and did ‘the chop’ (it was a Braves home game), then fireworks and a band and more food.

At least it's better than Rugby League, what a bloody awful sport that is...

While we're piling on sports we don't like... Don't like hockey either, never know where the puck is

I imagine it’s not popular on here but League is not in the same, errr league as Union. Not even close.
I like the fights in hockey and when they slam someone in to the side.

Games like Snooker and darts are boring beyond belief, but they're not sports so don't qualify.. I enjoy the odd baseball game, basketball is very look left, look right, look left again. Rugby Union isn't the sport it once was, it's getting very Aussie rules

Cricket
Football
Football

are my three sports watched regularly.
