Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 31st October) Leeds pursuit of damages against Everton in vein

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Tuesday 31st October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Leeds pursuit of damages against Everton in vein

Leeds, Leicester City and Burnley will not be successful in their pursuit of financial damages against Everton amid Financial Fair Play charges, according to former Crystal Palace owner, now talkSPORT presenter Simon Jordan.

Everton were recently grilled by a Premier League committee, regarding their out of control financial situation. The football authorities took action after the Toffee's posted losses totalling £372m (over a three year period), £267m more than the allocated £105m amount. If found guilty, Leeds, Leicester and Burnley have let it be known that that they will take legal action to recoup £100m each, for loss of earning potential.

According to Jordan, the punishment for breaking Financial Fair Play rules are clearly set out, thus agreed to by all clubs; this doesn't include clubs taking the law into their own hands to recoup lost revenue.

“They’ve got no chance,” “Everyone signs up to a covenant which is basically that the sanctioning of a breach has these consequences. Now they can make a case if they want and try and make a case through the legal system to try and suggest that this is a breach of the rules people signed up to those rules.

"Any decent court case is going to refer them back to the industry that came from and say what were the rules that you signed up to. The rules that you signed up to were that the punishment for financial breaches was this.

"You can’t then go and say ‘Well I don’t like the rules that I signed up to and I can’t do anything about changing those rules, so I’m now going to sue you for them. Any decent court will refer you back to your industry because that’s the governance that you decided you were going to be a party to.”

Would you settle for a point on Friday?

Leeds travel to top of the table Leicester City on Friday night, looking to close the gap between themselves in third, and the top two.

After a faltering start, the Whites are 14 points behind the foxes, and nine behind Ipswich Town (in second). Whilst in the grand scheme of things coming third doesn't sound that bad, the lottery that is the the play offs, has never been kind to Leeds.

Leeds must close the gap, but with 39 points out of a possible 42, how realistic is it, that they can leave the King Power Stadium with maximum points? Bearing this in mind, if you were offered a draw now, would you take it?

It will take 'remarkable mental strength' for Bamford to recover from this

Leeds Utd journalist Adam Pope believes Patrick Bamford's recent penalty miss at Stoke has put him back 'several paces' and it will take 'remarkable mental strength' to recover.

The 30 year old striker has been out of favour for several seasons after extended periods of time on the treatment table, and further fueled by his inconsistent form in-front of goal. Leeds may have the best fans in the World, but also the most unforgiving, and they don't suffer fools gladly.

You'd think Bamford, someone who is reported to be one of the most intelligent footballers in the entire League; would be a little more savvy, and not bite the hand that feeds him.

Whether he's cupping his hand over his ear to get a reaction from the Elland Road faithful, injuring himself whilst celebrating a goal, or pretending to have been sucker punched to get Anwar El Ghazi sent off during the infamous 1-1 draw against Aston Villa, Bamford just can't help himself. According to Popey...

He brought a lot of stuff on himself there that he didn’t need to, and nobody would have complained if he hadn’t taken it. [Crysencio] Summerville was gagging for it, maybe on-field [Pascal] Struijk should have said, ‘Right okay, make a decision, we do that’.

But look, it’s gone now, he had a chance when he came on to try and score [against Huddersfield] and didn’t strike the ball very well. He’s gone back several paces because of that in midweek and who knows. If he recovers from this that’s a remarkable mental strength.

But it’s in the balance right now that he can isn’t it, because the fans will still try and back him. We heard it the other night, there was a lot of signing for him in amongst the initial mixture of boos, so they will try and get with him.

Let’s face it, there’s every chance he might well be needed because if Rutter does get injured or Piroe then they’ve got to play him haven’t they.

Everton - whatever...let's focus on controlling our own destiny. If anything comes then a bonus.

Leicester...I would not take draw. We need a win, are capable of the win, so should plan to win.
1 point each doesn't do that much good. 3 does help if we are to track Leicester down. More likely we can get to Ipswich.

Bamford - humble pie required. Knuckle down, fight hard, play well, put the team first.

Its all fat Frank's fault really. It all goes back to Derby and spygate
and the unmitigated disaster of loosing to Derby in the playoffs
Since then we have followed Frank and gloated on his every failure
both at Chelsea and Everton.

We have an unheathy preoccupation with the man and take delight
in seeing all of his endeavours spiral into chaos... all of a sudden
Everton surpasses Manure as our mortal enemies.

I wouldn't be surprised if Frank got the England managers job
then everyone would want the English team to be beat by Scotland.

Trying to get compensation from the Potless Chancers Everton is Don Quixote tilting at windmills or King Knut trying to hold back the sea - a pointless exercise. Why on Earth Radrizzani & Co embarked on this hare brained wheeze only they will know bearing in mind what a pigs ear they made of being in charge at Leeds.

The game at Leicester is just that. A game. 3 points. No one is winning the Championship of being relegated on the basis of the match. 3 points would be great but not the end of the World if we get something or nothing. Personally I'd want to roll the dice

I like Patrick Bamford and from the point of view that he was part of our promotion winning team he will always be a player that is something special at Leeds United. He has had a very tough time since promotion with long term perpetual injuries, some elements getting after him and he himself feeling hurt and entitled and trying to have a go back not helped with him glaringly missing chances which have proved costly. That part of him that tries to get unfair advantage or con the Referee is just appalling and takes away such a lot of him and has no place in professional sport. All things considered though he is an important part of the Leeds United squad and has a lot to offer. We need him fit, ready and available for the scrap we have ahead of us. If Piroe or Rutter suffer any sort of long term absence then we would be scratching around to play in the middle in the forward position. I really hope he just gets his head down and is a part of another promotion winning team

Nowt will ever come of the suing business, it's gone as far as i'm concerned.

Bambi and 'mental strength' they just don't go together. Like most of the others - Let your boots do the talking and it shuts every fcker up. Don't even attempt to take another penalty unless in the future the manager says so coz you've earned his trust, just STFU, be humble, don't even attempt to get on the crowds side, knuckle down coz you've got good competition for your place, and see where that takes you, we'll soon find out if you've got 'mental strength' if you find the back of the net and give 100% on the pitch, quite simple really innit, the crowd are an admirable bunch and easy to get on your side if you use ya feckin noggin.

I'm 100% Bambi still has a big part to play before season end, whether through an injury to someone (probably him lol) or he earns his place by playing good that keeps a player out when he gets his chance.

I obviously want 3pts from Leicester but i'm not reet arsed if we lose a close game that we've played the best way we can to beat them, yes i'd settle for 1pt atm coz i think they're in front of playing wise, I think they've won it already ( The Championship) and we need to aim for 2nd, but t's all bollocks really that, just aim to win the next one - non stop. Just please try and take the game to them DF and see if we're good enough atm to do that, at least we'll find out where we're at, it's back to the drawing borad if they slap us.
Not dependent on Google, the www or 'stats' - Just a guy that puts his eyes to full use on the beautiful game :geek: ...That Ayling goal and "You couldn't script it  " - Dirty Leeds B@stard.
Must dash.

Personally I would move Matteo Joseph onto the first team bench and play him in front of Bamford. He looks fit and ready from what I've seen of the U21's highlights

One of the clickbait sites arguing that Bamford should start against Leicester as his pressing will help contain their playing out from the back, something Piroe doesn’t offer, with a chance we might get a turnover goal from regaining possession high up the pitch.

Tenuous, but I see the logic.

Being dropped as a starter for a game might give Piroe a small boot up the jacksey and focus his attention.

Any takers?

Seems you should not mix your politics with football

Leicester City star Hamza Choudhury has apologised for "any offence he has caused" after a social media post interpreted as a support of Palestine.

The midfielder wrote "From river to sea" with an image of a Palestinian flag on Twitter. Some critics claim the phrase can be read as the destruction of Israel, but other pro-Palestinian protestors disagree. The 26-year-old has not deleted the post but has put out an apology for anyone offended

Hmm.

He did score a brace there a few seasons back.

But

Will we press high?

Reading on the Foxes BB and one fan commented thus on Hamza's apology on twitter.

A club drafted, Whelan approved statement if ever I saw one. I'm slightly surprised it didn't include grateful blessings to the Thai royal family

You have to ask yourself if controvery has an effect on the teams performace... did the Bowyer/Woodgate scandel have any bearing on how a player or the team performed.

From what I remember Bowyer was completely unphased while Woodgate's game was shot.

Who's to say how Hamza will react.

Never saw any mileage on the everton thing, nothing good will come to us through whatever their penalty is, are LU still pursuing things, or is it just more malicious bollocks !!

Of course I'll settle for a point, its no points I can't accept, all 3 is achievable, that all depends on which LU team turn up and what the managers instructions are.
Leicester haven't faced anyone quite like us this season, if they think It'll be a stroll in t' park, they will be underestimating us at their own peril, hopefully.

As we've said many times, bamford will still have a part to play this long hard gruelling season, I'm far from his biggest fan, but I'm not daft enough to think he can't come in and do a good job every now and then, it's just I don't think he's good enough to get a regular start.
I don't buy into this "he could close them down at the back better than anyone else" it's the gaffer that instructs the players what he wants from them, if he instructs Rutter or Piroe to do that, then thats what they'll do, bamford isn't an ace closer downer is he ??
I'd personally prefer Rutter dropping deep and Piroe up front, again, it's the managers decision.

We need to go into the King Power with the attitude that we can beat Leicester. And why not? We have an excellent Championship side. So no I will not take a point right now. Let's play the match and see what happens.

This is correct, I suppose, and any pursuit of damages, I’m sure, will be in vain. But is it fair?

The problem is, that a points deduction for Everton (if that’s what the punishment would be) will of course punish the perpetrator, and possibly be beneficial for one of the relegation threatened teams in the Premier League this season. But it is not going to help any of those relegated teams from the last 3 seasons who have been most affected, one of whom may well have stayed in the very lucrative Premier League but for Everton’s deliberate cheating. Parachute payments are a help of course, but they don’t compare with the money available for remaining in the top league.
