Agreed, we've lost a lot and not added very much at all. Lose one or two more and the squad gets very thin. Seven days to go of the transfer window

Re: Sheffield Wednesday v Leeds Utd Match Thread
I have said this before that Bielsa liked a small team.
Having a small team makes selection easier... less things to consider. With a big team you have more egos to juggle with... will a player feel rejected if he is left on the bench... not getting the minutes that he expected.
A small team to select from makes the managers job easier, except when players become injured or suspended.
Things generally work better with fewer working parts... less things to go wrong.
This is Yorkshire man!!! big teams are a luxury, I remember when we only had one football kit and we had to wash it ourselves, clean our own boots, and our wage was a packet of Woodbine.

Without any of the academy kids, right now I reckon with have 19 recognised squad players, which includes two keepers. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 10:24 am Agreed, we've lost a lot and not added very much at all. So, we are at least five light without any more departures.

Re: Sheffield Wednesday v Leeds Utd Match Thread
We have and haven't. In terms of the first team starting line-up then we have lost 4 regular starters. However that could be reduced to 2 if you take into consideration that Gnonto and James played a lot so one of them taking over from Summerville isn't much in the way of disruption (in terms of familiarity). Similarly Kamara has gone but his place in midfield is taken by Gruev and Ampadu with Struyjk coming back in - as such all 3 of them were fairly much regulars last season. So really the actual disruption is just 2 positions RB and no.10.The Subhuman wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 10:24 am Agreed, we've lost a lot and not added very much at all. If Wober leaves then it is no real difference in terms of squad familiarity given that he was not here last season and most of the players he played with have gone. Gnonto would take the figure back up to 3 first team spots changing.

Despite all the excuses, the lads are upset about Georginio leaving, Brighton trolled us, best players left, young squad, we got 90 points from 46 matches, blah, blah.
Our friend Daniel has two wins from his last 12 competitive matches.
So we need a win tonight, or the pressure on him and our board will crank up and they will soon pull the trigger.
I hope we win.

Difference to last season, we had Cooper & Cresswell CB's, this year we haven't got any. Also, Wober can cover the LB position, where again we are threadbare.

It was tough match to win last season at Hillsborough and tonight's game in theory will be even more difficult. Realistically then a point wouldn't be a bad result as we look to keep ticking over until all the reinforcements have arrived.
Not ideal of course but similar to last year our season will only really start once the window closes and Farke can try to get a run of victories going. Plenty of time as it's a long long season and we all know it's how you finish that really matters.

Due to a small squad when injuries kicked in, Bielsa ended up playing 15 to 17yo kids who weren't up to the challenge. God knows if those kids are still playing professional football.Sean_Nile wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 10:31 am I have said this before that Bielsa liked a small team.

Players ruled out due to covid was aslo a factor though and I'm not sure we'd have had the all important cover for Kalvin (who was injured) no matter how large the squad at that time.

I'd have preferred a home fixture tonight in the hopes of a win to get us back on track not so sure that's the result we'll get tonight.

I know it is diabolical when managers are forced to use 17 year olds like Archie Gray.

We have a small squad currently but they will get players in before the window shuts, not sure why folks are in a constant state of panic and alarm. DF has enough to work with in the meantime.
Gnonto leaving is a hard one to speculate on. If as some reports suggests he wants to leave then it will happen if the club get an acceptable bid, if they follow through on the policy of only keeping players who want to stay.
I hope we keep hold of him personally, but only if he is committed.

Afternoon folk.
I cant see the new guy starting tonight
I fully expect to see more of the same from the team tonight approach wise.
I hope not as it as Wendies fans seem to agree that their lads struggle when team press them.
If that was to be our approach I wonder if DF would begin the game with Bamford as CF and Aaronson in the central attacking midfield role.

It was on a tweet by the dude who mentioned Largie was flying to the U.K. It was mentioned in one ofGer’s recent YouTube content.
At the bottom of the tweet was a line saying Gnonto wants to Leave. (I have no idea whether this has any legs )

Re: Sheffield Wednesday v Leeds Utd Match Thread
Remember that Ger admits that he just repeats what he finds on the internet. So that doesn't count as two people saying it.
And the guy who reported Largie was at the airport got his info from a relative who works there. So that doesn't make him reliable on what's been discussed. Just who is at the airport.
That said. Conjecture would suggest Gnonto might be looking for a move to a higher league.
