Joseph has to be feeling the pressure a bit too. Just one goal. He's had a few assists. And his all round play has been good. But you can't escape the fact that Piroe scores goals.

Makes you wonder how right all of the wise sages were who suggested we would have been promoted last season if Joseph had started the last few matches.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 9:09 pm Joseph has to be feeling the pressure a bit too. Be the main striker for a team who desperately needs promotion and spends a heck of the lot of the game totally uninvolved (only 30 touches compared to well over 100 for people like Rodon, Struijk, Amps and Firpo and less touched the ball less often after the sending off which says a lot)
But his all round game has been decent as you say, he has got a goal or assist every 127 minutes which is a very decent record.
And he's a handful.
But as you say Piroe scores goals and much like Bamford in the past people forgive the misses when they don't cost you points.
But eventually they probably will.
He's done well generally though all round Mateo.
I'd say a confident Piroe is probably the best striker in the league though.

If he'd come in and got a goal contribution every 127 minutes it would have certainly helped . . . . .
Isn't like his all round game has been poor either.

Piroe does have more space & time against tired legs, coming on as a sub.Victor_Notts-17 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 8:17 pm Says Piroe is the best finisher in the league but doesn't start him??? Weird one that. I believe if we play Piroe right, he gets 25/30 goals a season. He's good enopugh...

Piroe needs more minutes than he is currently getting, that is for certain. The problem with him starting is that he does not have Joseph’s energy for the press, which is a big part of Farke’s tactics.
We certainly are a better pressing team this season than last.

The fairly meaningless assists stat. Like today it goes down as an assit for him getting a touch despite Largy having tun run 20 to 30 yards, for me that isn't an assist.
Strikers are judged on goals. Bamford got al the plaudits last year when he was scoring, then he stops and it is the same old story.
I'm hopeful Joseph starts scoring, his miss against Burnley probably cost us 3 points. Similarly his misses v Portsmouth prbably cost us too.

Yeah in the situation he is perfect for bringing on when we are leading and the opposition have to commit men forward. Probably less effective coming on when we are chasing a game and the opposition are packing their box tighter than Jaydog's extra samll budgie smugglers.

He's created some good chances himself, was it one for Aaronson?weasel wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 9:55 pm The fairly meaningless assists stat. Like today it goes down as an assit for him getting a touch despite Largy having tun run 20 to 30 yards, for me that isn't an assist.

I think he's done overall fine, but he's in danger of becoming the Bamford paradox.
Bamford got credit for his goals last year true but he also had a heck of a lot of people who defended his lack of goals and poor finishing which undoubtedly cost us plenty of points over the years with the "makes the system better" argument.
Isn't that what people think in te Piroe vs Joseph argument?
Personally I have total confidence in Piroe and that isn't meant as a criticism of Joseph (and do still think Farke's use of Joseph or lack off last season potentially cost us).

But Swansea under Russell Martin were a possession based team as well (averaged over 60% both seasons).
So again it must be possible for Piroe to play it.

Re: Cardiff City v Leeds Utd Match Thread
Yes it does seem like history going round in circles. It is like last week and people say Joseph missed a chance Piroe would score but then the flip side is that Piroe probably wouldn't have ended up getting the chance or being able to get into that position from where he would have got the ball.Cjay wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 10:07 pm He's created some good chances himself, was it one for Aaronson?

I would like to see Piroe giving a run as the 9. Last season he was the fall guy for us trying to work out the Rutter conundrum. We don't have that problem this season so Piroe can be played in a more natural role. Similar to you it isn't a slight on Joseph but we need a clinical striker in the team to be able to make the most of all our possession. City have gone to a new dimension because of Haaland which makes it less likely for them to dominate but not score at least 1. So for me Piroe can be our Haaland and if he regularly starts and regularly scores then it means teams have to score to take anything from us and if teams have to score then it opens them up a bit more and makes it easier for us to exploit them.

Don't get me started on the Bamford celebration after months out from injury. (enter faaip). Bamford was a pratt and has never been the same player since. Should have been fined after that celebration, after all the medical teams time and input was just casually swept away by a selfish Bamfordwhiteinfrance wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 7:04 pm On another note. What would have happened if Ramazani had injured himself during his celebration - a la Bamford?
He had already tripped over his own feet during the game!![]()
