Ampadu as the anchor in midfield provides better cover for the defence in away games and when he is on form can make the long diagonal passes to release the wingers in transition. Struijk gives a different option in terms of playing out from the back and links well with Firpo and Solomon to give greater penetration down the left . With Rodon , Bogle and James down the right there is increased potential to create down both flanks and if we are to get the win tonight that will be needed . Tanaka should play ahead of Rothwell or Gruev as he provides a better balance of bot attacking and defensive attributes while carrying a goal threat . Aaronson and Piroe complete a team which should win. If Bamford is fit for 10/12 games he will still have the chance to match his goal tally for last season which could well be the last little push needed to put the icing on the cake of promotion. While that may not be a popular view on this forum it would be entirely fitting.

However feeling a little more optimistic due to the impressive recent performances of the new goalie who had a solid game vs Sunderland.

And two teenagers.

Striker Mamadou Doumbia got his first start vs Sunderland, only 18, but was a real handful, big strong lad (6ft4).

And talented 19 year old Republic of Ireland winger Rocco Vata has recovered from a virus to play tonight. A coup for Watford to get him in the summer, the great and the good of European football been tracking him since his youth team days at Celtic.

He's not disappointed with 3 goals and 3 assists.

So missing big players in Bayo, Baah and Bachmann.

But optimistic about those replacing them

I watched the Sunderland game, and for 90 minutes Watford were worth their point, I didn't think they were outplayed at any stage.

Sunderland should have had 2 in injury time though, when all Watford's structure and defensive organization vanished.

The former I would say but what a nice selection headache for DF to have.
I prefer Amps in front of the back four but I'm happy either way.

With 3 other defensive subs available, I’d have been tempted to put Chambers on the bench instead of Guilavogui, if only to get him involved - he has a Leeds future, big Jos does not.
