All those errors we committed last night & still the blunts couldn't take advantage of us. We won't get away with it against the likes of Bournemouth, Brentford, Palace, Forest, etc, and that's without even considering the top PL clubs.
We are a top championship club right now, and that's about our status, unless we invest in some shrewd quality recruitment.
Thats exactly why we need to enjoy this season just in case, dreading a bielsa style hammering again.
If the owners aren't keeping a close eye on whats happening at the bottom of the PL this season then god help us, probably a blessing we didn't go up last year, no excuses if we don't invest, even stevie wonder can see what needs to happen.

Yea, we need to start the hard sell now like you say, some players won't be available until later as we know, but surely we can be looking elsewhere like abroad, unearth another Tanaka or some African. Half the fun of promotion is waiting to see which players we start next season with and recent history suggests we're an excellent stepping stone to a big move even if we go back down again.

It’s not my job to decide where to invest, we employ highly paid professionals to do that, but I fear for us if we don’t invest wisely in the summer.
Midfield is always key in the PL as are full backs and the goalkeeper.
Lots of work to do there and hopefully we learn the lesson from last time when not only did we not we replace Cooper, Ayling & Bamford as first team starters but we also had players like Shackleton filling the squad when we needed better.

Relegation premier football which is an awful place to be, fans on your backs, the prospect of the next 2/3 years of your contract played out in the championship... I'm not sure name alone is a good enoughselling point. Then there's geography which has worked against us, historical patterns whereby you're shopping from what's left

It's about balance.
It's what managers like Marco Silva, Thomas Frank and others manged to find.
Hopefully like Marco Silva Farke learned lessons from his first tries in the Premier League.

I think Farke has done an excellent job in identifying players for us so far and also attracting players to the club. Don't forget Rodon turned down premier league offers to sign permanently for us. I hope that if we get promoted we manage to sign players that improve us and fit into the hard work and team spirit that we have. Spotting players like Tanaka and Ramazani is what we need more of.

I do think that we have two facets to how we play. We have the patient possession based game but we also have shown we have the ability to go toe-to-toe when teams attack us and at times have looked far more dangerous when teams have done that. I didn't see enough of Farke's Norwich to know whether they had enough pace in their team to be able to counter attack at speed.

Periods of possession if you are lucky but being good off the ball becomes far far more important.
Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton, Aston Villa, Newcastle, have all made promotion, and have stayed in the premiership.
What is their secret that they have not been yoyo clubs... I think there has to be a more nuanced explanation than just playing style as the reason for their survival.

Yeah, you’re not wrong there, even I, a full fledged Farkebabe , can see that our current tactics will simply not be working in the Premier League.
At least we will get more exciting games in the Premier League at Elland Road, when the opposition are not just sitting back, most PL teams will come at us.

What’s needed is a hybrid system.
It seemed like every team was caught up in the rush to play like Man City. Even Man City are finding it hard with injuries and some aging players.
For me Slot at Liverpool has got it spot on. He has a fabulous mix of high press, defensive depth and a very effective use of long balls and diagonals.
Easier said than done but I a detect a shift in a “play it neat from the back” philosophy
Bielsa’s first season in the Premiership caught a lot of teams out with the the one on one system, but team solidity defensively alluded him and we ended up getting a few batterings.
I hope DF sees the way tactics are changing in the top teams.

Slot has made simple changes & is set to achieve champions success as a result in his first season at Anfield, amazingly with the same squad he inherited from Klopp, who struggled to find any consistency with the scousers since 2019.

Farke's Norwich teams weren't as pacey as our current team.

this season 2024/25 after 27 games Liverpool are top with 64 points and +38 GD
