The cynic in me would suggest it was all a club orchestrated pr exercise. Give the kid the sing and make sure Jack goes over and gives the kid the shirt. Doubt there were two kids with the same sign so Jack spotting the 1 kid in the crowd with that sign is quite a coincidence.

The missus chalked it up to one smart kid--no one else was going to be asking for Jacko's shirt, so the odds were definitely in his favor

I think you’re right, and that makes a mockery of the whole VAR concept.

They gave it, but with a different prompt, they wouldn’t.

I don't mind that if it comes down to a close judgement call, a bit like umpire's call in cricket. You go with the ref on the pitch if there is no definitive reason to change it.

Talking of which running is all DJ really did.

Biggest disappointment imo.

Had no real impact with the ball to speak of, didn't create anything, wasn't particularly impactful at all.

Thought he may grow into the game 2nd half when Everton came out a bit but no.

There were positives all over the pitch tonight. Another week or training can make us better. I suspect a number of our team will have gained some confidence from that match. That can only help going into the next two games.

I think so CW as well, lots to talk about, but that was a managers win that, a team win.
He's been working some with Piroe, and the rest.
No bad performers.
Best i've seen Tanaka, especially for effort.
Stach surprisingly anonymous and silently/unnoticed somehow there first half (can't put my finger on that) But really there and into it towards the end.
Piroe was brilliant dropping into the 10 hole and opening the back up, James and Gnonto/Stach should've capitalised more on that.
Cracking subs just when we needed them.
Although Willy did well and worked his socks off we missed that Solomon type of quality from an individual brain/higher class of player offensively all across the front, but no one was bad, the likes of James will be upgraded on in time, same Aaronson etc but collectively ok for now.
He's spoke about this and it's being addressed.
DCL would've liked that, him and Piroe together going to be a tough fit though, and i doubt that will happen, one or the other, unless DCL can come in from a wide position.
Going to be great going up against Arsenal with nothing to lose and pressure off, looking forward to the challenge of that game now.

So glad we got the win, we deserved it.
Hopefully EFC struggle, they were pretty woeful first half, kind of took some gloss off what we were doing quite well, because they were totally out of sorts especially first half. So it leaves the jury still out, but it's not a bad start at all, room for improvement, but we're far from a mess and Burnley looked like they'll never score a goal if they play all year, and i don't think they can just defend their way to safety.

The new signings acquitted themselves well tonight.
- Gudmonsson was a revelation
- Stach is a big presence and his long distance shots are something we haven’t had for a long time
- Perri looks solid though he doesn’t look convincing with the ball at his feet
Nmecha - wasn’t on long but was effective. Clearly doesn’t lack confidence. Hope he stays fit.

There’s me thinking that the point of VAR was to ensure all decisions were actually correct with the benefit of technology and time, which the on-field officials don’t have.

A player could be seeing how we start and go on before Sept 1st, if we were getting trounced and looking odds on for relegation, they ain't going to come.

Fitness will increase mate but they ran their socks off, there isnt a team in the world who wouldnt feel it after doing that. The fact they they were still pressing beyond the 90 minutes is testament to what great condition the players are in.

Itll be interesting to see how much distance the team covered tonight.

Although I expected VAR to overturn the penalty decision as a defender it was definitely deliberate. Moving towards the ball you wouldn't put your arms behind your back as that movement would twist your torso and make you a smaller obstacle. You should actually raise your arm (the left arm in this instance), which gets the arm out of the way and also pushes your chest to the side and makes it a much bigger area. Raising the arm though is dangerous because obviously if the ball then hits it you have no real defence as it is seen as you moving the arm unaturally. As such for me Tarkowski moved his body to the left and left his arm at his side deliberately thinking he would get away with it.

Who leans down with their arm by their side when falling? You don't, you put your arm out to stop the fall, so the fact he kept his arm there by his side and it hit it, means penalty. If he'd have been stood upright and it struck his arm as he pulled his arm in, then no pen, but falling into the ball like he did is a pen.

You just watch that new Man City kid go this season then, he's the rich mans Tanaka.
Reijnders is his name, and man you just watch him go this season if you want to see a modern day footballer, that lad can run i'll tell you, and he can read and play the game anall, I wish we had him.
