The trouble is when it comes to something subjective like the penalty decision tonight. Pundits (supposedly experts) seemed fairly split. As such if it black and white overturn and make the correct decision. If it is open to debate then stick with the on field decision. Personally I would have a panel of 5 in the VAR box including ex professional footballers and then have it that at least 4 (possibly all 5) have to agree for a decision to be made.
Decisions by committee are never a good idea. You would get a hung jury, and the players could have a little tea break while the pundits argue in the VAR box. As it is waiting for VAR to confirm a decision can sometimes be interminable and it breaks up play and teams often loose momentum as a result. There should be a time limit on VAR decisions.
Just like the goal keeper wasting time by holding on to the ball for 8 seconds they are punished by giving the other team a corner.
VAR should be switched off if they can't come to a quick decision. That would sharpen up their decision making, and interfere less with the flow of the game.

Hmmm ... makes you wonder
Don't you know Jack has telescopic vision and magnified at that, how else could he have spotted the kid with the sign and run from the halfway line to give him his shirt?

But he leaned towards the ball, it his his upper arm which is why it was given. Had he not leaned towards it then no pen.
Tarkowski knows all the tricks in the book, I suspect he thought he'd got away with his deliberate action.

If we'd been trailing today, I'm pretty sure he'd have sent Ramazani on ahead of Harrison and ahead of Aaronson..
Correct Andrew, Harrison is more defensively aware than Ramazani.
My voice has gone, my ears are ringing and someone thought it was a good idea to close the M621 with thousands upon thousands of fans trying to get home, so we were stuck in traffic for hours.
Would I do it again tonight, absolutely I would

Yes, bleeding roads closed put another hour on journey home
Three lanes of traffic crawling into one lane, cones everywhere, not a road worker in sight. I assume they were tucked up in bed.
Ideal start to the season. Three points - EPL level is new territory for most of our players.
Quite nostalgic playing against the low block……..again. Particularly in the first half. Good eye opener for a lot of the players to get a feel for the physicality and having to try and break down better defences.
The penalty, which could have gone either way, but was the right decision due to the intent - has filled a lot of sporting online pieces.
Ampadu took a bad knock and he will feel sore today without a doubt, let’s hope no long term damage. He was bossing the middle until that tackle. This was the catalyst for Everton to get into the game more as he lost some mobility.
We will need him fit to have a chance of getting anything against Arsenal.
All the players played their part for me, I am really impressed with Gud’ so far. His all round game is quite impressive.

That's why I would have the vote and need it to be 80% or 100% for a decision to be given. No big debate amongst the VAR panel just see the incident from a few angles then vote. Also why I would have dedicated VAR officials rather than it being a ref who was on the pitch the week before. They could then speed things up as they would be more familiar with what they could see and what they needed to see. Speed it up and then there could be time limits (barring technology malfunctioning). We often see a simple free kick or goal kick taking well over a minute to be taken from the point when it is given,

Jack did well amidst the boos last night.
It is not just that, he is very experienced at this level, plus he has in-depth knowledge of how Everton play. IMO wBringing Rami on would not have improved us in this game. What we wanted to avoid was giving the ball away unnecessarily. O’Brien played well at RB for them. for me it is fanciful to suggest Rami would have brought the X factor or made a difference. He will play his part this season assuming he is staying at the club.

It would slow the game down even more, the more decision makers / debaters the slower the outcome on contentious decisions.

Only if you allowed them to debate it. Could be something like 50 seconds limit to debate then vote and the verdict is then returned within a minute.

Yeah. Worth noting, as you said, that James is only recently back from injury and didn't start preseason until very late. I'll give him a pass on today's game.
He wasn't bad Andrew was he, just not at the races type of thing. But i'm going to watch now if this is because of the step up to the Prem and coming up against a better player, a player that's faster, better defensively etc - And whether DJ has the talent, know-withal to improve himself, or is he limited to always be stuck between that Championship/half Prem player?

Is it only me?
Did our subs change the game?
Yes they did, but it was more that they were needed at that time, so yes they did change the way it was going as EFC at that stage were starting to better us as certain players tired. They were pretty much spot on, and personally i was glad to see Jack in front of Rama because Rama is more flair and Jack more conservative and better for us keeping that lead.

You cannot impose time limits on decision making when the outcome or incident is likely to divide the room. Particularly when the outcome has significant magnitude. This decision has split most professional pundits.
