Re: Sheffield Wednesday v Leeds Utd Match Thread
Let's be brutally honest.....
We were a weak squad last year with a very high standard starting 11 by championship standards.
We lost two starting 11 players in Firpo and Solomon and have replaced with Gudmundsson (Upgrade) and Okafor (Totally against this transfer, big rep as a youngster but injury prone bit part player for big sides in little leagues with little end product since but probably about the same level as Solomon).
We have tried to build a squad in one window and have had some success..... Bijol & Stach are top signings for us.... But Calvert Lewin, Nmecha, Bornauw..... Aren't signings they're frees.... Nmecha probably the most likely to stay fit for any length of time. Justin..... Mare in prem last year... Injury prone..... Perri..... Very little first team football in a decent league good year last year but big price for someone who needs to play around at the back but is known as having that as a key weakness.... Think he's a good keeper but doesn't on paper fit with farkes system.
We have no creativity centrally with Aarronsson our only outlet at prem level..... while stach known for his commanding central midfield presence looks like the most likely to score. Players like Tanaka who have all the capability but not the athleticism/build (Gruev, Piroe etc will get closed down and run off the ball etc).
Will Calvert lewin do better than tonight once match sharp.... I'd hope so but doubt he'll stay fit long enough. We'll find out if he bucks his 7 year trend and remains fit to prove me wrong over the next 3 years just like with bamford.
Haphazard knee jerk window where key weaknesses haven't been addressed. Prem won't care.... We have about 5 lower prem level players with championship players in key positions whose skillsets don't fit the prem (I.e. you can have a slow striker who's a physical presence but can't have a slow striker who can't compete physically).....
Flipside is this team needs to gel and they're better than the last two showings. We'll see but unless we have marquee signings of top Gonzalez level players up front and in the 10 then really think we're in trouble.

58 shots blocked by the low block as we try to walk it in
1091 backwards and sideways passes
75% in possession between CBs and GK

Nowhere near good enough for the Premier League mate, unless they show significant improvement.

I genuinely forgot Longstaff was on the pitch at multiple points and only realised when I saw his squad number.

He's probably reasonable at what he does. Unfortunately though that is not being creative.

Re: Sheffield Wednesday v Leeds Utd Match Thread
I've just got home and logged on to see 25 pages of 'match thread'
I think i'll leave reading it till tomorrow, 25 pages of 'meltdown' at this time of night isn't good for the soul.
Best thing i can say about the game is :
1. Was a bloody good run out for those needing it, ...2. Thank the lord no teams will be putting men behind the ball against us like that in the Prem.....3. You're going to be under immense pressure now Daniel if you don't start getting points immediately....4. Why did we not just buy their keeper? 5. I don't think Darlow is the answer....6. I could carry on with 7,8,9,10,11 etc etc etc But well, again - Just thank goodness we won't have the luxury of being in complete control over anyone like that in the Premier, because it's just not for us that at all, stick to the 4-3-3 Daniel and go toe to toe, see if they can hack it, we've not a cat in hells chance otherwise.
You ain't going to last pal unless you get what you've bought up to speed asap, and into some sort of attacking formation, it seems they can't knock it about fast and move for toffee. Can't wait to see your response at home to Newcastle, because you're going to need one.
On a sidenote - What a fantastic job that guy is doing with the remnants' of what's left at Wednesday, he looks really up for the fight with those young lads, I'm quite rooting for him to do it now and well worth watching out for.
