Was thinking this.... Meslier had how much rope before even a mirmer from Farke. That said I do think that he looks suspect in terms of awareness/ability on the ball and long kicks. Hopefully he'll improve but not holding my breath should be somewhat of a full package at 26 in these areas or at least not as poor.

I thought it was a strange signing in the summer..... A lot of money for a keeper with one season as a number one who had his detractors even in that year. Is he better than Meslier? Probably.... But I can name 5 gks in the championship better than meslier data wise and they wouldn't cost 18 million.

Our recruitment guy is in his first job..... Steinnsson leaving really impacted us in this department.

Liverpool's and City's keepers are error prone too and I think the former is highly rated... very poor against us though

He's been on a good run has Daniel Farke but I think cynically, in throwing Perri under the bus, he was deflecting attention from the mistakes he made in the loss against the Barcodes.

All with the benefit of hindsight I accept but the substitutions were not well thought through and a bit too late. Perhaps should have been Tanaka for Stach on 70 mins as the latter was struggling, Gnonto on for Aaronson who had run himself into the ground with 15 minutes to go (but then who knew it'd be 10 minutes or more of added time!) and then Bornauw for Rodon who also was on his last legs again with 15 minutes left. It was a waste of time bringing on a luxury player like Okafor in a yo-yo game like this when what we needed was a defensive minded player with an engine. Could not see the point of fetching Gruev off unless he had a problem and assume the Nmecha substitution was to waste a bit of time. So yeah, that last half hour of the Barcodes match was not Farke's finest time

As regards Perri, well we are mid-way through the season. If DF does not know what his capabilities by now he never will know is all I can say. No use pointing now TBH. He is what he is. Ordinary.

Maybe first season nerves but he does let some soft shots creep in. Not convinced...

Even with hindsight I would dispute your points. Gnonto and Tanaka were sh*te when they came on. Okafor not great either but with his pace it gave us a potential outlet. If Justin's header is a couple of inches lower we win the game. Small margins.

For me was just a case of two teams with tired legs, ours probably a little heavier than theirs and them having a stronger bench than us. Think too much analysis of this doesn't do any good. If we keep conceding goals then yes a problem but the last few games have been better defensively.

Good save during the penalty shootout but still looks unable to deal with cross and especially set pieces.

We need better.

We now know the importance of a good keeper and with that comes cost. Perri needs time to settle. He may not have been first choice, but he is the best we have ATM and needs to given a chance. Not to be hung out dry which is what DF did. Thought he did well today and he would be in my starting eleven for Villa.

Fair enough. Meslier a few years ago could have been sold for more than we paid for Perri, but has regressed. Maybe it's our goalkeeping coach that is the issue?

Fair point that tbf.

Are quite a few goalies who initially struggled in the Prem (generally for the same reasons as Perri) and went on to become really good.

Ederson, De Gea, Allison, Lloris.

Loads of them actually

Who knows is Perri is the same (not the same level) but he wouldn't be the first goalie who struggles first season.

And I don't think it's a coincidence we've struggled with goalies when our last 2 goalkeeper coaches were never professional footballers.

Will that be on 1st July this year when Messlier and Darlow both leave after their contracts end?

Had 1 brain fart but this save alone was worth its weight in gold.

Made 2 or 3 other decent ones and saved 2 pens.

Couldn't have done more than he did today to stake his claim to get number 1 back
