The players bought on were the same as Man City, at basically the same time.

Very formulaic is Daniel.

And again why did he wait so long to change anything?

I still don't understand why we went so defensive vs Sunderland in selection (he said something about not wanting to make big changes) but surely a home game vs a depleted Sunderland isn't the same as Man City?

You are allowed to change plans and be brave.

And then why back to ploddyball.

The whole thing was weird.

Well that was a masterclass in how to donate 3 points to a team that was there for the taking if we had set up to beat them from the start.

Can't understand what Farke was thinking at the start, or why he made no attempt to change it at half time.

With the right set up and tactics we would have won that by 2 or 3 goals

There's beenquite a bit of chuntering about the Slumberland keeper going down with a pretend injury so that they could get an opportunity to reset things on the pitch. We are seening this happening more and more. It isn't right and really something needs to be done.

My point is that if the opposition took the chance and sorted out things that were not working - why the heck didn't Daniel Farke do the same thing? Could he not see that Slumberland were crap and we did not need to play with two DMs at home? Perhaps he had no idea or he was playing for a point?

I was only partly tongue in cheek when I posted this. I'm well aware of our ability to perform poorly agaisnt inferior opposition, we've done it for 60 years.

Just watched the full match again.

So many poor passes.

Lost possesion far too many times.

Committed too many daft fouls.

92 backward passes.

Darlow touched the ball more times than many of our outfield players, he was almost playing as a 4th centre-back & is expected to pass the ball like a midfielder.

I can't recall us winning one of our nine corners.

We only won two of Ampadu's seven long throws, both when Bijol was on the pitch.

VAR refusal to pick-up on the Struijk challenge when he was wrestled to the ground in their box, but they spotted the Ampadu handball no one else saw until VAR intervened.

An awful penalty wins the match for Sunderland's only shot on target.

To be fair, we only made their goalie work once with Stach's set-piece shot.

Feeble/tame shots from Bogle x 2, Gudmundsson, Aaronson, Gnonto & Piroe.

Gnonto's yellow card an absolute joke!

Sunderland have quickly adapted to the Premier League's modern gameplay, with all their spoiling dark arts tactics.

Have to disagree on this one i dont think they deserved it, but they were given it on a plate by us and the ref

But Sunderland timewasted at every opportunity, went down like flies BLATENTLY faking injury again and again for the cameras

This wasn't Man City, or Arsenal we were playing and even if it was we were at home and that's where I expect we take the game to the opposition.

It's hard to seize the initiative when your coach selects 9 defenders Hence all the sideways and backwards passing.

Le Bris realised the game was there for the taking and brought on Xhaka, and Isidor to effect the win. No response from Farke until we conceded.

This ultra safe approach doesn't work, their stand in goalie, on his EPL debut, was hardly worked. We had Ampadu commit a knucklehead action and hand them their one shot on target.

Darlow faced one shot on target, a very weak penalty and still conceded. That's Meslier levels of inept goalkeeping.

It was cowardly from Farke on every level.

Team selection, not adapting at all to the difference between playing Man City and an injury hit Sunderland (almost as if he was afraid of making a mistake in selection).

So kept the ultra defensive creatively lacking selection

Even his subs were practically identical to the ones vs Man City right down to the time they came on (same players as well I think).

Worst though was it was clearly a ploddyball resumption which with such an ultra defensive team was never going to work.

The players who may have helped were sat on the bench or not in the squad.

Sunderland may have sat off a bit but you can still go direct and play for 2nd balls as has worked.

But no we went back to ploddyball, and not only that but DF was so happy with the possession being over 70% he kept it how it was for 20 odd minutes.

As Beren said in his article it's the type of game we've seen before, had hoped it was over but no.

Decided to revert to type vs an injury hit Sunderland
