2026 World Cup Competition

Post by 1964white »

There are 72 matches in the first round.

Far too many, so I've reduced the amount of matches by half, which is about the same amount as we went with in the 2022 World Cup

Rules

3 points - for the correct score
1 point.. - for the correct result
1 point.. - for predicting either of the teams goals scored
5 extra points - if you predict the correct score with your (NAP) selection

DON'T FORGET TO NOMINATE YOUR NAP MATCH PREDICTION

WTF is a 'NAP'?

Maybe we should have a poll about this?

Nominate one of the matches above as your NAP, should you predict the correct score, you earn yourself an extra five bonus points.

Not everyone has a clue about horse racing terms '64..... You should have realised that by the number of participants in the nap of the day thread....

A man of your senior years should have realised that

Coincidence!
Right now in Canada, my moronic neighbours to the east of British Columbia, namely the MAGA province of Alberta is going to have a refernedum to ask whether they should have a referendum as to whether to separate from Canada. What a bunch of idiots.

IIRC the word NAP refers to and old card game called NAPoleon where having a NAP, ment having a very strong hand, a banker, a winner, or a cert. It was adopted by the racing community to signify a horse which the tipsters thought would win, and in this case a team that you think will be a winner.

Conversely a Nap is a brief sleep in the afternoon, which is highly recommended if you want to avoid polls.

Do we have to predict all the scores in one go like Wilsden has done, or can we predict as we go along mate (e.g the day before) ?

You can predict as many as you want, you may want to predict the first lot of matches each team plays.

It's up to you mate.

Some members have done their predictions in stages, then forget to follow up with the next batch of matches in previous competitions.

You may have more intererst from a viewing spectacle, now you've predicted the scores.

Much more fun!

😁😁😁.

I’ll see how far I get before the tournament kicks off, but think I’ll do all the teams first games, before I predict their second games as Mr 64 alluded to.

I'll have the England games on no doubt but won't be glued to it. Unless we reach the final. The rest will pass me by I expect. Just need a bit of a break from the football I think. I'll watch a bit of cricket and a bit of Wimbledon. Got lots of pointing, roof work and a couple of rooms to decorate over the next couple of months and I want it all done before the start of the new season.

No not really. Was/is big in South Africa. Not so much here in Canada.
I did enjoy going a few times when invited to the swanky restaurant where you can place the bets at your table while enjoying a g'n t or six. :roflmao:
