We have had a £20mil offer rejected by Southampton for 22 year old midfielder Shea Charles.

Clubs remain in discussions.

Highly rated Northern Ireland international.

6ft2, athletic, strong, mobile and versatile.

Primarily seen as a defensive midfielder but capable of much more potentially as the 6 goals 2 assists show last season.

With his schooling at Man City he is a decently press resistant progressive passer.

Decently running with the ball as well, good balance and strong.

Defensively more reliant on intelligence than crunching tackles.

A similar profile to someone like Busquets perhaps but with a little more forward running.

Weaknesses are he isn't a great break up of play yet in terms of tackling, he can be bypassed.

He is also at the moment a jack of all trades master of none, he's not a pure holding midfielder Makelele type, not a dictator Pirlo type or a great box to box type.

He has weaknesses in areas in his games hindering him in all those roles.

Yet to find his best role but still young.

Already shown he is an elite Championship player though.

It's a good question, however these days you need 15 top outfield players for every PL match. On top of that there are injuries, suspensions and also potentially just the sheer number of games.

Farke will work out when, where and how to utilise the squad but a player who can play multiple positions should be a tremendous asset.

Hardly. Rutter we made our money back on. Gray wasn't exactly bought by Rads, he'd have likely been at the club regardless of who the owners were given the Gray legacy. Am guessing that the other 2 were Sinisterra and Adams, both of which we simply recouped what we paid for them. So the only money maker there was Summerville.

The reason we are where we are is solely down to Bielsa. I think you'd be talking top 1% of managers in the world could have got us promoted with the squad we had - let alone improve them so much as players. Without Bielsa we simply remain a mid table championship side. Don't forget that prior to getting promoted we were selling to buy and having to raise more than we spent. Ronaldo Vieira sold so we could buy Bamford. Then Roofe and Pontus sold with I think just a couple of loanees (Nketiah and White) coming in to replace them.

I get the squad thing, completely understandable, and as you say multiple options from just one player is a huge bonus.

I’m just interested to see who folk think he will replace, he ain’t coming in ahead of, say, Ampadu or Stach that is for sure.

Michael O’Neill is putting a great young team together & Shay will play a big part in that, in their loss v Italy in the World Cup playoffs the average age was 22, he also turned down a permanent job at Blackburn to stay with NI.

Hopefully the Charles deal does happen, he is a really good player and a great improvement to the squad. I'm sure somewhere in the back ground Stuart Dallas has been in Shea`s ear and making all the right noises to get him to sign.

This would make me very happy, quality footballer, before his peak. You don't build with crumbling bricks. Can slot in as part of the pivot in a 4. Can play a second 8 alongside Stach in a 5. apparently can play sweeper which covers Bijol and right wing back at a pinch.

From the tape he does remind me of Elliot Anderson. Fingers crossed

I can live with Wilson if we get younger elsewhere.
