Well, they clearly want him gone for this season. But it's looking more likely it will be their sister club in France.
Except he has stated explicitly he wants to stay in the PL. But at the end of the day he's an employee - so will have to go if instructed.
I'm a bit fatalistic on this one. The recent history is of course against him, so a huge risk to bring him in, likely on a high wage (unless he REALLY wants to stay in the PL). But there is a massively talented footballer in there somewhere and Leeds, over the last couple of years, have been able to bring out talent in a lot of players.
Also if they are going to sell him in a year as Alonso starts building his own squad (with a bulging cheque book), Strasbourg likely couldn't buy him.

His valuation has of course gone through the floor - some sources saying about 10million at present!!?
Its interesting, Chelsea are apparently reluctant to include an option to buy at the end of the loan. That's either because they see him being able to "work his value back" and then sell (or keep) him, OR they know if he remains a flop - wherever he goes - they'll lose their ugly little blue shirts on him, so they need to start fishing.
Difficult situation for Alonso - he'll be under pressure to increase the value of this player, back to somewhere near what they paid for him (which was too much). But the fact a loan is even being entertained means Alonso doesn't see it as HIS priority. Well buddy - legend or not - sometimes you cant have your cake and eat it too
