Was involved in a wedding, as many of you will know, and missed this post and the subsequent programme. However, if any of you, like me missed it, and are a fan of the late great JC, it is on BBC iPlayer, so I shall be watching that one!

John Charles, without doubt was the the greatest player I have ever seen. If he was playing today he would be a multi millionaire.

I was priveliged to see the see the great Revie side but John Charles was a central defender who could outjump and outspeed any forward. He was also a striker who could do the same. I never saw him miss a penalty but the memory dims, so I may be wrong.

Nat Lofthouse the England CF (stiker) said that John Charles was the best CH (central defender) he ever played against. Billy Wright England captain 105 caps, before the era of substitutions, said that John Charles was the best CF (striker) he had played against.

John Charles was the best CD and striker I have ever seen and it is so sad that he died practically penniless when today he would be in the same category as Messi.

I know us old sods are regarded as yesteryear and I accept that football is faster and more technical than before but you have to remember that players like John Charles had to play with a leather football that soaked in the moisture and became a lead balloon, they played in mud quagmires and matches were not abandoned because of frozen pitches.

Tackles which now receive red and yellow cards were also accepted and perhaps JC would have lasted longer in the game under the present rules.

John Charles will remain, in my eyes, the greatest player it has been my privelige to see.

When I lived in Italy and said I come from Leeds, the locals always said "Oh John Charles - il gigante buono". A fantastic ambassador for our club.

I just missed him play too, actually walked past the 'Giant' behind the South Stand at a Champions League game

He was the greatest player i have ever seen to pull the white shirt of united on.I to have met him a few times and he came over to be very humble and always had time for the fans not like the primma donnas we have these days.They could do to take a few lessons from people like him and remember when their playing days are over they will soon be forgotten and also to remember its fans like us who pay their wages.
