just as i thought kevin nolan's decision to drop a league to play for more money was the most disgraceful move in football, samuel eto'o signs a 3 year contract worth over 30 million pounds for wait for it............ Anzhi Makhachkala. Who? This from a player who can clearly still cut it on the big stage, still only 30 and scored 21 goals in 35 Serie A games last year.

I thought Kewell and his agent screwing us over when he went to Liverpool was a far more disgraceful move than Nolan.

Not sure I agree on that one. There is obvious unrest within the Newcastle setup and Nolan moved to be with a manager who he worked with before and who obviously promised him a quick return to the Premiership.

I was reading a very good article in one of the Irish Sundays at the weekend about the influx of money into football from Qatar - sponorship at Barca and huge amounts of dough into Malaga and PSG - 2 clubs spending silly money on players.

I don't really buy this argument that it is a short career that has to be maximised financially - most of these guys can still make a living of which most can only dream AND be successful.

Maybe it depends how you measure success in life?

just read he is earning £336,000-a-week AFTER tax. That would be lovely wouldnt it. i understand why you are saying wouldnt we all do an easier job for lots more money but the world of football is incredibly different. If i had a job on minimum wage in a factory working long shifts and someone offered me a job for twice as much money as a postman or something of course you would take it, but football is something you would do for free anyway so earning £150k a week or £300k would be irrelevant if there was a choice to play champions league and in the EPL or La Liga. Once you have a beautiful house and a few ferrari's what else do you do with you time and money? Get racially abused whilst playing a poor standard of football apparently.

That's obscene Nobody is worth that amount of money for just kicking a ball about. Footballers are greedy plain and simple.

Eto'o is now 30, so hes only got a few more years on top. Hes played in 3 world cups, numerous champions league, hes played for Barcelona, real, inter etc and played with and against the best footballers in the world for quite some time now. So when he is offered that deal from a russian club hes allus going to take it. Who can blame him? i would have done the exact same thing.
