I know season-ticket holders who couldn't be bothered to go today

I was impressed with how many Southampton brought, especially given it was on Sky and the long distance. Must be the largest away following since the move to the expensice West stand seats. Still rather see them in the South though.

Attendances have dropped away significantly, average of 5,000 down on last season. Renewals down as well which is worrying. You know what though? We play like that every week and attendances will go up. Good football, gave everything, a joy to watch.

Hopefully, the reported great atmosphere reports from today will mean a few more fans at ER in the coming games. Thought that 20K was a decent turnout, for a stupidly rated Cat A game, when it was live on telly.
And despite Bates' best efforts to ban TRUE fans, I saw the LUST chairman sitting in his usual seat in the ES lower, on telly today! :thup:

Spoke to Gary before the game, he was worried about his ticket working or not. It's one thing blocking them from buying tickets but entirely different revoking already purchased season tickets.

BUT. That game being on telly might just encourage more people to come down next time out! I don't think that Cat A/TV games is a very good combination though...

Yes things are tight but other clubs have not suffered or lost the high % of fans not going to games as we have

Leeds is the third biggest city in the country by population so 20k fans is terrible that said £31 a ticket is just too much £25 would be a fair price

And once again we ignore the fact that Leeds is a rugby city [we do have 2 clubs, one being the most successful and probably well run in the world], that the big crowds at ER are built on travelling fans and that travelling is out of the question for many these days - many travellers were also staying over yesterday cos getting home ain't easy after a 17:20 kick off.

Leeds RL/Hunslet/Bramley/Batley/Cas/Featherstone/Dewsbury/Wakefield - that's where the fans went traditionally and that's why we have never had support to rival the major football cities. In addition Leeds is cosmopolitan and cosmopolitan folks find other things to do with their time and money. That my change as we improve and that is why, presumably, we have developed the corporate boxes which had plenty in and would generate more money than the seats they replaced in the East yesterday I guess.

Real rivalry - like Liverpool v Everton /Manchester City v United/Geordies v Makems etc would actually push up gates. We don't have it which is why we went searching for it across the Pennines.

Depends which statistics you are looking at, were either 3rd or 4th. I think it would be rather silly to really suggest that Manchester is smaller than Leeds though so I'd say 4th.

It is though - Manchester seems bigger cos folk include Salford in Manchester and because there are no gaps between it and other towns on any side unlike Leeds where you hit open country as soon as you hit the city boundary [to the north]. Salford produces top musicians [often said to come from Manchester] and 1000s of scum fans. Leeds is not only the third largest city it is infact the finest city in the world. Those of us born there are the luckiest of Yorkshiremen/women.

So where were the fans during September & February when the the rugby season was inactive

Why did we attract an average of 25k last season ?

Why did we attract crowds upto 30k in League One ?

Why did we attract 20k plus v Bradford in a JPT game ?

Why did we attract 38/39k on a regular basis in the O'Leary era ?

Why did we have a record attendance of 57k v Sunderland in the late 60's ?

Your arguement doesn't stand up looking at our previous attendances or did the rugby fans take a break from their beloved sport up until now

Our club would be up the creek if it relied on 100'000's of people who reside in Leeds & the surrounding area's

Thank god for the exile fans & for the support from around the rest of the UK, one guy who sits in the East stand travels from Moscow to watch his beloved club

We're talking about the basis for football team support though, those people who live in places like Salford are in the catchment areas for the Manchester teams.

And yes as you say Leeds is very cosmopolitan, the population has grown 200,000 in the last 30 years and this is largely due to influx of people working in the finance, service and law industries that Leeds relies upon so much. A lot of the poupulation are not Loiners and therefore every Saturday you see people in the pubs cheering on the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea rather than Leeds.

With the surrrounding area's Leeds has a population of a million plus & we can only attract around 15/16k who live in the area

The coach park was packed yesterday with coaches from Cumbria, Stockport, Midlands, Buckinghamshire, Scarboro, Bridlington & many other destinations

I know many fans who travel independantly too !
