I don't think it will matter. We've had two delusional old men leaving us with their "legacies" in the last year and all it's done is hold the club back even further. £ millions in debt for a building projects we didn't need and a team full of old men that will all be gone in 2 years, great legacies. Bates should be shot and Warnock should have been sacked a long time ago.

Watched McDermotts Woking teams years ago...didn't think much of him then tbf but he did ok at Reading, Not the manager to get us into the premiership imo ...but as a stop gap....maybe..

Both sides played on the same pitch I wasn't impressed with his team selection nor his subs. Why bring Poleon back from loan just to have him bench sitting? Why bring Brown on ffs? Getting angry at the moment.....

I can see why fans would like a new manager right now in the hope that the new manager syndrome gives us enough to stay away from trouble. The issue is that the new manager will have five games to save us, that's not enough time to put his methods across, so will it really change anything?

I guess McDermott, O'Neill, Poyet, Di Matteo, or another manager might come in and enforce their authority from day one. They might get our players to fight more, and dig out a few results needed to stay up. But look at Reading, they sacked McDermott and replaced him with Adkins, and what's happened?

Not a great deal. Two defeats, and no more fight. Same could happen with us, might not, but any new manager comes into a tough situation. We've got a below average squad that struggles to score and keep goals out. It is unlikely a new manager will solve our defensive woes or our lacklustre offense. So we might as well stick with Redders and hope that a five point cushion with five games left will be enough.

That said, a new manager could take the last five or less games to evaluate the talent in competitive matches. But with a chance of relegation, would a new manager want to start this job right now and get a potential relegation on their cv? Possibly not the best way to start a career here.

I cannot describe how angry I am with Neil Warnock and his "that squads just a few players away" rubbish, consistently failing to get those players in. He's left us with a far worse squad than he started with. They are less talented, less capable of both scoring goals and not conceding goals, and to top it all off they are on the downswing of their careers and will only get worse.

"Great foundation" my arse. If a new manager has a complete clearout in the summer and we do really well as a result he'll still think he's at credit for it.

I know how you feel. If feel a bit cheated to be honest. Other than McCormack and Byram none of our 'players' can hold their heads up tonight. Fans travelled a long way and paid a lot of money to be there today to see Charlton, who at best are a mid table League 1 side beat an abject Leeds side.

The pitch was poor, Ref poorer, Leeds were the poorest of all. Wish people would stop making excuses and start taking ownership of our problems. I wouldnt mind if we were playing long ball and winning 1-0, play how you wanna play, but have a formula, have a style of play, I was never a 100m runner, so I never tried it. Why is Tonge a CM player rotating with Green, another CM player playing on the wing? I thought when Warnock fupped off we might stop all this round pegs in square holes... Obviously not.

Wasn't the first/only thing Brown do to get booked? And he got another year out of us ffs! Not impressed with anything Redders had to say and we need more than a caretaker. Five games is too short for an interim so - if a new and permanent man is appointed - we should be prepared for a relegation/rebuilding scenario imo.

This is the worry, I do think we will stay up this year, even if it is by the skin of our teeth but whoever does come in as got a massive job on their hands, virtually a rebuild job, probably only half a dozen at best worth keeping, a total change of playing style etc etc. Next season is the rebuild the following season is the one where we can hope for a shot at promotion, this is at best. Another few years in the wilderness I fear.

Personally I don't think McDermott is the answer.

I don't think Warnock deserves all the blame. He is by no means blameless, but the problem with this football club since its relegation from the premier league has been short term thinking. It has always been the same old thing every season. There has never been a true attempt at trying to build a culture and style of football that is built on by each manager like teams like Swansea, and to an extent, the likes of Norwich and Southampton have done. What happens at this club to a large degree is that every new manager tries to demolish what his predecessor has done and build his own team, which then goes through another demolition by his successor.

Now hindsight is a great thing, but I think it would be hard to argue against the fact that every manager we have brought in has been given a strict short term aim of: a - building a team to compete; or b - building a team to get promoted. Now perhaps under Bates it was never going to be anything different, but that doesn't mean that the problem we have had this season has not been brewing in the background for the past few seasons. Sooner or later short term thinking comes back to bite you on the ass, and when it does, it usually hurts. Every time we have made a managerial appointment, each manager has tried to build 'his' team to get promoted, and ultimately it meant the signing of a hell of lot of average players that are not good enough for the next level, rather than bringing in players to develop into a team that can get better and compete at a higher level (eg. like Martinez started at Swansea, Lambert at Norwich, Adkins at Southampton etc).

My hope is that this gives our owners the kick up the backside they need to start thinking longer term with our next appointment. We need a forward thinking manager that will build a culture and style of football at this club that can take us forwards. The type of guy that will try to develop our existing young players, and surround them with talented players that play a brand of football more akin to the modern era. I'm sick of hoofball, and s**t football. I want someone that gets us playing good football, and gets our academy players coming through and into our first team with the same philosophy. All this needs is an ownership willing to give the manager time and support; a patient fan base to support the team; and a forward thinking manager that wants to build a long lasting culture. I hope we get a manager like Poyet or Martinez (not saying we will get either, but I want that type of manager), because if we do, then I think we will progress better than we will if we make another appointment with the short term aim to get promoted, which will then follow yet another wave of short term ('experienced') signings to get it done but will ultimately not be good enough for the next level. This is our chance to build something.
