As Hibbi has already mentioned this lad has been banging in the goals for fun in L1 so why not make a comparison to Gradel who achieve similar success from the flanks. I'm hoping to see the next Bremner/Giles at ER, i know i probably won't get my wish in my lifetime but we all can dream can't we :-D

Sadly, given recent events, you're more likely to see your wish fulfilled, but it'll be the next Rory Bremner and the next Ashley Giles.

Both of whom will be played out of position.

Apart from the Cliftonville goal machine that is Liam Boyce/Joe Gormley, both Ronan Finn at Shamrock Rovers and Chris Forrester at St Pats are playing great at the minute.
Boyce apparently going for a trial at Chesterfield, Gino. Why Egg hasn't had a look at him and/or Gormley is beyond me :?

Paul Cook manager at Chesterfield was in charge when Sligo played The Reds in the Setanta and probably made a mental note for future reference.

Sooooo when is he coming to LUFC surely another one that will do the rounds...

Alessandro Del Piero has confirmed he is to part ways with Sydney FC after two seasons at the club, although his playing future remains unclear.

That's already done the rounds Hibbi, early on in the purchase process Cellino said he would try to get to get ADP in as a player/coach. He's the kind of player I would like to see at ER, just to be able to say that he used to play for us!

Yeah i saw this one do the rounds in early Feb/March,

but now hes official left them i wonder if Cellino has had a word with him? his experiance and knowledge could be valuable towards the younger players he could possibly play the Kevin Phillips Role bit part come off the bench and try and nick a goal.

What sort of level would you compare the Irish leagues to?

I would say the best of the Irish league clubs are playing at top of conference/bottom of league 2 standard, but Boyce is head and shoulders above that. Had a spell in the Bundesliga as a 19/20 yr old that didn't work out, but Werder Bremen must have seen something in him. He's worth a look at, and would cost relative peanuts if we fancied him.

Only in that it's a part team league, Nick. I would say - with FT training - The Reds - best team in Norn Ireland the last 2 years by a country mile - would be top L2/mid L1 at most.

But I'm biased

We are committed to signing Cameron Stewart and he will join on a permanent deal in the summer . Didn't realise that .

Yeah, 3 year deal apparently. Emergency loan was just to get round him playing for 3 teams this season.

Lets hope he can get a good pre-season under his belt and improve some...

Aye, that's probably about right. Difficult to make a comparison when most IL clubs have only PT players

radebe88 wrote:I can never understand why anyone would want us to look at a player in the Irish leagues. They would have been spotted much earlier if they had a chance over here. Some of these lads were talking about are in there 20's and aren't in the northern ireland squad.....and that should be easy enough
There's something in that, Rads, but in these days of football being money-driven, clubs look to buy the finished article and so the lower leagues, Scottish and Irish leagues get overlooked. We don't, or certainly didn't, have the money to do the same so I think we should be looking for unpolished gems who have a chance to develop. Especially when the cost would be negligible. Mightn't work out, but worth a bash, imo. Look at Snoddy and Beckford, for example, no one had heard of them before we took a punt

the upper teams are looking for the big game players staright off the bat, as you rightly said the finished atricle, theres alot of uptapped talent waiting in some of the lower leagues if people look in the right places and are willing to take a small gamble.

Seamus Coleman arguably the stand out right back in the prem was snapped up from the irish leagues for 60k
Shane Long another player spotted in this league,

im sure there are many more who have made the transfer, these are two current players that i can thing from the top of my head.

radebe88 wrote:Some great points there that I didn't really consider at first. Maybe watching Noel Hunt this season blinded me from the usually very efficient Irish stars we have had in the past. I think also the magnitude of turn over in players we need this season a few chances taken in these guys might not be a bad idea if we manage to sign a few already established players
Apology accepted

Seriously, though, Norn Ireland will usually pick a numpty from English or Scottish lower league than a really good Irish League player.

Plus - all the lads with sense as well as skill opt for the Republic

A 15 years younger Michael Brown would be nice, given his end to the season...
