New Manager / Coach Rumours

Any discussions/rumours/opinions on who should take over the helm?

One fairly substantial rumour;

Steve Clarke said to be interested in working with Leeds. - As reported by Phil Hay, though he admits it's far, far away from happening at the minute. Interesting, given he didn't want to work under the constraints of the Palace regime, wonder if the Cellino regime appeals to him. A pretty impressive coaching CV and even whilst in charge with WBA, he was referred to as a Head Coach. Remember him working wonders with a pretty average WBA team in his first season with them.

Fair point leeds mango.Also I,d like to say personally I rate the guy.
For us though would he be even bothered? maybe...just maybe.

Neil Lennon for me. Celtic to the championship might be a big step up but I think he can handle it

Would be happy to see Steve Clarke here, a proper coach. But would/could he work with Cellino?

My biggest fear about Cellino Nick, a few decent coaches out there looking for a job but how many will be put off considering us because of his record of hiring and firing.

I think the whole hiring and firing of managers and coaches by Cellino is vastly over-rated by some as a detriment to Clarke coming on board. How many managers survived a full season last year in the Championship? Might be an interesting stat, and offer some discernment?

I think the fact he got rid of 37 coaches in 22 years would be on anyones mind who wanted to come here not how many got the sack last or even this season elsewhere, a lot of those would have been in charge more than 6 games.

Hey - we got rid of TWO managers after The Don, who were here just 44 days each...And we were a top club back then! :mrgreen:

I don't think any out of work coach/manager would be worried about the presidents record regarding coaches. All coaches/manager's will think they can do better than the last one which means in there mind they wont get the sack and also they are OUT OF WORK lol.

To be fair, a slight stretching of a point, but a definite point that the previous habits are continuing.

Oh, and as to the Nigel Gibbs thing- apparently he declined, pointing out that he is still suing Cellino for unfair dismissal!

I see your reasoning but surely a coach wants a fair crack of the whip and getting sacked as soon as there's a blip, which seems the case with Cellino, isn't quite that. A lot of the coaches we possibly desire, that are out of work, aren't exactly on the bread line and may just wait for something a little more secure to come along.

I would possibly use your argument the other way too gessa. Plenty of coaches not on the breadline so not in desperate need of something secure. Taking on Leeds would be a big gamble but for any coach who does and is a success the rewards would be huge! I also don't think failure would really be a blip on anyone's CV as they can easily cite Cellino's propensity for discarding managers. I'm intrigued as to whether people would want redders in charge full time? I personally would be too worried he would end up leaving permanently if it didn't go right but on the other hand he is a familiar face that would offer some stability. Steve Clarke would have my support but I also quite fancy a Simon Grayson return. However I'm sure we will end up with someone picked from obscurity! !

Always 2 sides to look at things Liam and I guess we won't know how these coaches think about the job, I'm just looking at it from how I would personally assess the job, manager of Leeds, yes, working for Cellino, I would need a lot of assurances first.
