Unbeaten in 8 with Warnock not playing :sing:
Glad Taylor is making the position his own. How was Wooton? If we have Berardi on the bench as cover for both positions I'd be quite happy.

I still can't believe some of our fans think Byram Lees Pearce Warnock were a decent back four, a defence which leaked goals for two seasons, now we have a taller, more athletic defenceGenghers wrote:Unbeaten in 8 with Warnock not playing :sing:

Wootton played very well as did the rest of our defence apart from Silvestri who had a few dodgy moments
We only had one defender on the bench but we do have the options of moving players around the back four with yesterday's squad
Byram, Wootton & Berardi can play RB
Wootton, Bamba, Cooper can play CB
Taylor, Cooper & Berardi can play LB

Charlie Taylor proves Cellino/Redfern decision right
I still can't believe that some of our fans think Bellusci is a defender. A complete waste of £1.6 million.
Hopefully he will be shipped out at the end of the season

It isn't the fans who put him in the team in a defensive role though... So the coach must think he is a defender.... and he is the one who sees him every day.....Martyn wrote:I still can't believe that some of our fans think Bellusci is a defender. A complete waste of £1.6 million.

Re: Charlie Taylor proves Cellino/Redfern decision right
Not all your opinions, no. The whole defence has changed and is currently playing well, and Taylor has potential to be a great player, but you can't be serious when you say it vindicates the decision to let Warnock go? He put in great performances when the tactics were awful, when the team selection was awful and when the players around him were awful. Bamba and Cooper didn't feature and it's very much more likely that they play a big role in the improved defence. There absolutely no justification that Warnock would have pulled down the current performance.
But if you genuinely want to run with it, where is the topic saying "Wootton at right back proves that Cellino's hiring of Berardi was wrong". Or that players like Morison, Murphy, Austin, and Wootton (McDermott/Warnock signings) have fought there way into the team proving McDermott/Warnock right. I mean, if Byram hadn't have made the transition into midfield, and we'd instead sold him and Wootton done well at right back, would that have proved the decision to get rid of Byram as being right?
Our starting team on Saturday featured three Cellino signings; Silvia, Bamba and Cooper. Bamba and Cooper have experience in the English leagues (which is what most of us were crying out for with signings) and while Silvia has been doing alright, there were many questioning whether S Taylor might have been a better option.
You have made some decent debates on Cellino's reign but making topics like this and Pearce (a topic about him being on the bench?) just seems like digging to me.

Re: Charlie Taylor proves Cellino/Redfern decision right
We've wasted far more money on far worse players in the club's history. I like Bellusci, but think he needs to play a DM, as he tends to roam a bit at times. The season is a very long journey and he had a bit of a hard spell, just like most players do during the grind of 46 matches. And don't forget, his first season in England. Still has a vital role in the future of Leeds United.Martyn wrote:I still can't believe that some of our fans think Bellusci is a defender. A complete waste of £1.6 million.

Oh, back on topic, CT done a great job. Didn't think he could step up and that letting Warnock go was a mistake, but he's proven me wrong. Keep it up lad!

The transfers of both Warnock and Pearce could come back to haunt us if god forbid taylor gets injured or as do any of the central defenders United could be a bit on the short side injuries do happen as do suspensions Warnock was the season best player until he was injured and at times seemed at times to be holding the defence toghther at times only time will tell but as yet Taylor has only played a handful of games and his form could fall as fast as it has risen.

Re: Charlie Taylor proves Cellino/Redfern decision right
Actually reminds me of a David Luiz type player, he'll have moments of madness and moments of brilliance but when it comes down to just solid, consistent defending, which is what you want as a centre back, he isn't reliable. In a DM role, the mistakes that inevitably come could be covered by the centre backs. He might get a chance at that role at some point, and it's almost certain he'll get a shot at centre back again, so I'll not right him off yet but the Cooper/Bamba partnership looks strong.Crude wrote:We've wasted far more money on far worse players in the club's history. Fair play to the lad, once we can stay up the experience he will get this season will help him become a big player next season

Agree Warnock was one of our best players upto his departure to pastures new. SW was on a decent salary so allowing Warnock to move on wasn't a bad decision when you bear in mind we haven't got a pot of gold floating around ER.theleedsmango wrote:Not all your opinions, no. I suspect Redfern knew he had a lad who was ready to step upto the plate in Taylor & by golly hasn't Charlie taken his opportunity well, yes he'll make mistakes as he is young & still learning his trade but tbh we haven't missed Warnock due to Taylor's impressive performances. He has the right aptitude & credentials to make more improvement with experience under his belt.
As for Pearce he is an wholehearted player who is prepared to put his body in the line of fire but his general defending is average at best so getting a fee of around £300k for him is good business especially as his contract was up at the end of the season. Bamba, Cooper & Bellusci are all an upgrade on JP
With regard to the Wootton/Berardi debate....I for one think Berardi is a decent defender & was unlucky to lose his place due to an injury he picked up at Bolton where he put in an impressive performance linking up extremely well with Byram down the right flank. Wootton has done a fair job but he looks uncomfortable on the ball & like a CB playing as a full-back
EY made a fair point with a possible lack of cover should we incur any injuries although we do have defenders who play in varying positions along the back four hence the reason Redfern only selected one defender on the bench yesterday
I'm so pleased for the likes of Murphy, Morison & even the much maligned Austin, all three have made an impressive impact in the team since we ditched the diamond formation. We now have a big, committed team which can compete with a bulldozing side such as Rotherham but can adapt to playing footballing sides like Bournemouth

Sorry mate, I can't buy that "first season in England" line. We spent a fair amount of money on him as a CB, but he has not the first idea about marking attackers in our area - that's nothing to do with it being England, that is basic CB play. He doesn't organise a defence (we have scored 1 header this season - how many have we conceded from simple crosses?), he doesn't mark in the area and he lacks composure. He is a downgrade on Tom Lees.Crude wrote: We've wasted far more money on far worse players in the club's history. I saw Charlie Taylor play earlier in the season and thought he looked really good and he's showing he is good. Good Call.
When the ball hits the goal, it's not Shearer or Cole, it's ...... Antenucci.

I was one of those that weren't happy about letting Warnock leave, he had been playing well, but ...... Having seen young Taylor play early season, I thought he would make a good replacement, but after we had avoided relegation. I wouldn't have extended Warnocks contract and I'm more than happy to see how Taylor develops, I think he's a quality player in the making.

And on the exact same premise, would you therefore say signing Bianchi and Sloth was a mistake since with Cook and Mowatt in the team, we haven't really needed them and wouldn't miss them if they were gone?!1964white wrote:Love seeing young players progressI know some of our fans were not happy Warnock was allow to leave but Charlie is proving the point every game we haven't missed SW one jot

And with Byram & Murphy now performing so well in midfield probably not, although we will require back up due to possible injuries & suspensions as the season progresses therefore the likes of Bianchi & Sloth may be called on, both are earning nowhere near the salary Warnock was on !theleedsmango wrote:
