One day cricket has become boring, there is no contest between the bowler and that batsmen. Way too easy to score runs unless you throw your wickets away. I watched a bit of Sri Lanka v New Zealand earlier on and Malinga was being smashed for eight runs an over and the commentators were praising his bowling,

50 over has been in decline for years. Don't like 20/20 much but it could easily be formatted better, that should take over all 1 day games and Test should remain obviously

I can't stand 20/20 but at least its shorter. ODIs are like 20/20s with more overs nowadays just a bash fest. I was watching a game between South Africa and the Windies a while back and SA scored just over 300, the comment was that they would be disappointed not to score around 330.

I used to enjoy one day matches when scoring around 220 was a good score which could be defended but was still reachable. Now the bowlers are too restricted and they have those power plays all designed to see nothing but runs as if people who watch cricket cannot enjoy a low scoring game

But now you have to see the fans waving those ridiculous sponsored '4' and '6' placards all the time

Aaah, I suppose I'm just a whinging old man when it comes to things like this though.

Although I am with you in every regard, being a devotee of Test and 4 day cricket, I do have to wonder if this is the very same Harry who was telling us on the thread about the Premier League that those of us who preferred football the way it used to be were resisting progress?

Fair point, but I still think that football today is better football than football in the past whereas cricket is worse. My opinion is that cricket has been artificially manipulated to make it easier to score lots of runs as opposed to batting improving to such a great extent whereas football has changed to reduce illegal defending.

We'll have to agree to disagree H, I preferred football when it wasn't dominated by a small number of super rich clubs.

Altho' I far prefer test cricket I can certainly stomach (and watch) both shorter versions. The trouble here (World Cup) is the format is so drawn out with the 6 minnows basically padding out the first month until the predicted 'big 8' reach the quarters. Sure an upset is possible but very, very unlikely. Just takes too long.

India V Pakistan earlier today was predicted to be the most watched cricket match of all time so I guess it cant be all bad!

I'd find it very hard to praise Malinga's bowling.... given that he doesn't actually bowl properly.

Once Peiterson wasn't picked we had no chance IMO. You can't drop our best player by far and he's one of only 2 or 3 world class players from an average side. We wouldn't likely have won with him, but we would have given the best teams a run for their money. We are now miles behind the top 5 or 6 teams in the world and just better than the very poor teams. We were the best team in the world not long back, just where has it all gone wrong?
