Murphy, Cook and Mowatt for me but Silvestri deserves a mention kept us in many games especially early on in the season. Special mention for Bamba who I feel if he'd started the season would probably have walked this poll.

Hold on I take it this poll doesn't differentiate between the player of the season and the third best..it should if we're voting for 3

Re: LUFC Player(s) of Year poll
I've gone for Murphy for player of the year as he's been a saviour. Mowatt just behind with silvestre Bamba and bellusci behind. Cook for young player with Taylor just behind. It's a season of 2 halves this year

Still a few games to go yet until I vote , interesting how Murphy and Bamba, 2 very good players, who have helped turn the season around, are getting votes yet have only played a third of the season.

Credit to Redfern/Thompson for turning Murphy's career around & to Cellino for the signing of Bamba

Voted for only two; Murphy and Silvestri, and I think it's obvious why.
Right off the top of my head I can think of at least ten points we wouldn't have right now but for Silvestri and his acrobatics, especially early in the season.
Murphy is easily our most complete player now.

Mistyped it, meant no goalkeeper, not midfielder.faaip wrote:Erm....Murphy?
A spine with 2 CBs is very stumpy.

Re: LUFC Player(s) of Year poll
I used to associate a spine with a strong centreback, central midfielder and striker; i.e. would be first on the team sheet despite the formation/tactics. Kompany/Toure/Aguero or Terry/Lampard/Drogba. I think it has now come to mean "three good players".Martyn wrote:Mistyped it, meant no goalkeeper, not midfielder.

I don't think 64 was really worried about his use of the word spine....it was just a word. While I'm here though that would be the keeper, centre back and central midfielder ..and in Silvestri, Bellusci/Bamba and Murphy the spine is indeed beginning to look strong..The striker would be the head in this anatomical example

As you say we are on the right track with the spine or heart of the team
Silvestri - Bellusci/Bamba - Murphy/ ?? - ??
We need a top holding midfielder to play alongside Murphy & a quality striker to complete the jigsaw

Re: LUFC Player(s) of Year poll
Wasn't isolating 64's example. I've heard pundits describe Chelsea as having a good spine to the team with Hazard/Fabregas/Matic, so I guess everyone interprets it different. Although as you say, if the striker is the figurative head, I guess that means the defence is the legs, so maybe the spine is the midfield and the pundits are right.faaip wrote:I don't think 64 was really worried about his use of the word spine....it was just a word.
