The discounted goal was one of those that could have gone either way, striker backing in more often than not will concede the FK..We set up a little more defensively which creates too much of a gap between defence and offence and we we're very poor bringing the ball out. That was down to the new defence for the 6th time this season, we lose that almost psychic link we normally have.

Ayling, Philips, Struijk started central defence, Klich played deeper which is not his game, he looked a touch lost...Dallas is not as attacking a wing back plus he doesn't fill the midfield hole like Luke does, Alio stays wide, So the centre mid was vacant for the most part. That allows them on to us.

Sad to say, but Taylor would be perfect for this team.

I thought bringing on three dwarfs against the biggest set-piece threat in the league was a master stroke.

Great 3 points against a Burnley side that know how to stay in this league, I’m sure all the doomsday merchants will slag off most of the team as being not good enough

We have had so many games where deserve to win and dont.

Today shouldn't have been our day but it was.

Thought Wood didn't disappoint, slow as f**k and can't jump...No idea why he's idolised here and the type of player that proves that stats can be very wrong..

Seemed like change of tactics. We attacked in first half and quite defensive in second. Hope the players are not tired already, it’s a loooong season.

Should have been 1-1 anyway.

In the air Meslier is dire.

KP and Ayling did well but the 2nd half especially was so poor. Burnley had more shots than us today, says it all really, we made Burnley look an ok team.

3 points though so thats ok.
Meslier is quite vulnerable at times occasionally lacking confidence, but not helped by a flakey backline. I do think we need to bring in a more experienced keeper in Jan, as there isn't much competition or decent cover. However, it's rare clean sheet and a really important win.

What about all the chances we missed?

For all their shots on goal, if you watch we defended really well, covering the angles and trusting Meslier to defend the near post which is exactly what he did. Considering Burnley were best suited to exploit our Achilles' Heel, and they certainly tried, we kept them out.

I disagree. Harrison, Pablo, Rodrigo and Raphinha all should have scored.

Thats standard.

The ball ended up in the net twice and both should have stood.

Burnley had more shots and on target than us.

It could have been 4-1 at half time.

But didnt.

Burnley were robbed of a goal and Mesliet was busier than Pope imo.

The media wanted pragmatism from Bielsa and that's what he gave them. Dyche forced him by putting 2/3 up front meaning Phillips slotted in. I thought Phillips played well, as did the other two but it does bring teams onto us more. Almost abandoned the centre of midfield and Klich has so much to do with Rodrigo playing almost as a false 9.

Phillips MOM, and Pablo reminded us that he’s the most guileful individual at the club.

This was going to be our toughest test of the season and we came out of it well.

SG90 wrote: Sun Dec 27, 2020 1:57 pm Defended much better today, as I said before with Struijk we look better than with Cooper.
I can't agree with this. Struijk isn't bad defending and he has more pace than Coops, but he has no composure with the ball and his passes utterly lack anticipation. Worse, several times he was on a completely different page than Meslier.

The whole side looked out of synch today. Not sure if it was the lineup or what, but even our attackers looked jittery and showed no patience with the ball.

Remarkable we came away with three points...

Thought it was bit odd Rodders and Raph were taken off.

Would have gone for Harrison (poor again) and Paddy myself for Rodders pace on the break?
