Re: Brighton v Leeds Utd Match Thread - Kalvin Injured
Anyone who has Dallas, Klich and Roberts in midfield will struggle at this level to create and I'm sorry but despite his stats Harrisons end product is so lacking still.
In a team with less possession and chances you would see it much more.
When the team isnt working well.the lack of creative talent shows and we resort to aimless crosses.
We need a new winger and 2 new quality midfielders

Have to disagree with you on that one. He was lively, running with the ball, always trying.
Klich and Roberts were simply awful and how they stayed on the pitch and were not subbed ..... Roberts is lazy, he loses the ball and loses interest, the others lose the ball and at least make an effort to get it back. Not sure what's happened to Klich.
Horrified and baffled that Bamford was subbed, I was sure it would be Roberts!
It was a lack lustre game that from the off looked like one we were just not into for some reason.
Commentators as per usual - challenges from us are cynical, deliberate etc, challenges from them and particularly that Burn I think it was were described as cheeky nudges, he's just a character, his height made it unavoidable to knee Ayling in the neck!!
Gutted at the result but hey it's Saturday, I have a glass of prosecco and an Indian takeaway to look forward to later.
I'm going back to 505, I saw them at Sheffield and they were amazing.

Agree with you on Klich & Roberts.
We missed Dallas in midfield today, had an outstanding season in the majority of our fans minds.

This must be why we are always being associated with wingers in the press (Kent?), maybe Bielsa wants to upgrade this position?Cjay wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 4:55 pm Anyone who has Dallas, Klich and Roberts in midfield will struggle at this level to create and I'm sorry but despite his stats Harrisons end product is so lacking still.

Re: Brighton v Leeds Utd Match Thread - Kalvin Injured
I love Bamford as he gives his all. Poor bloke stood no chance today. Too many aimless balls into the box - quite often he was on his own.
Having said that he needs to mix his game up for me. He is pretty poor in the air and does not have the natural athleticism to compete against the defenders that Brighton have at their disposal. Making the same run between the defenders makes up wide players minds for them in terms of delivery form out wide. Unless it is absolutely on the money he doesn’t get a sniff. I think that is why he was subbed. An alternative approach was needed.
Whoever was up front today was on hiding due to the lack of creativity and, slow transition and quality on the ball.
I still believe Roberts has potential, he does have moments of quality- so it is there. Whether he can maintain that level of quality consistently is up in the air- he fades in and out of games like Harrison. Unfortunately there are not many options.
Hopefully they can get the needed quality in the middle of the park that we do desperately need.
Poveda had so much potential. Always wants the ball. Difficult to comeon when chasing the game as he feels obliged to try and force it. Needs to start to have a better opportunity to show what he can do.
I hope MB let’s either Huggins or Davis play at LB. Head scratcher why he persists with Alioski. He is a catastrophe waiting to happen far too often.

I agree with the trying point and that's fair enough. However, I felt that he failed to take on or beat a giant full back who really should be easy meat for a small tricky winger. He misplaced a number of crosses and passes too. Just my opinion. Was far from the worst player on the pitch thoughbecchio bear wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 4:57 pm Have to disagree with you on that one. Re: Brighton v Leeds Utd Match Thread - Kalvin Injured
Did Costa being out actually cause us more issues that Phillips being out?
Kock for Phillips was the obvious choice but felt there was too much shuffling around elsewhere. Klich is not at the races at the minute, I would have kept Dallas in the middle and brought Poveda in for Costa.
Only reenforces the business we need to do in summer though; a left back, a No 8 and preferable a striker who can do the same work that is required from Bamford.

I wonder who Bielsa will blame for Ben White being able to run through our entire team like Messi?
The boss definitely wont like that.
Roberts and Bamford is my guess.
Talent is debatable but imo i think what will go against Roberts most is he is lazy.

Poveda shows a lot of nice touches and trickery but he's not actually delivered anything yet. Needs to be making those key passes and coming up with assists and goals. that said I would have still started him today.

Scampers around the park looking like a schoolboy with no control of a football, certainly no end product. Also so lightweight Poveda is eaay to knock off the ball.
There's a good reason why Pep allowed Poveda to leave the Etihad as will be the case in the summer when we sign Jack.

Experience from the Brighton defence there. I play (or rather played, since Covid curtailed all recreation sport and still has) a lot of football out here in California against short, lightweight, young and tricky latino lads. I'm 6'1, play as a CB, and have lost a yard of pace though age and injuries, but I always knew that you could get them running down blind alleys and easily nudge them off the ball.danhirons wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 5:48 pm I agree with the trying point and that's fair enough. Of course we're talking about very different standards (though Mario Melchiot does/did play in the same league! He's different gravy!). Poveda needs a season on loan in the Championship to "toughen" up and learn how to play against big physical defenders and to learn when to make the pass.

Harrison is ok as a backup but he has no consistency and ranges from appalling to very good often in the same game.

He is but i cant remember his last genuinely good game?YorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 6:40 pm Harrison at his best is awesome, but as you say lacks consistency!
The style we play means attacking players will invariably get goals and assists but when was the last time Harrison featured on the motm poll prominently for example? Top 3
I cant remember, certainly hasnt been recently.

I think its unfiar to judge Poveda based on cameos tbh.
He hasnt had a start and was for me bright and tried hard.
At least he tried to take people on and be different whereas his teammates resorted to hoofs into the box for Brighton's jolly green giants to head away.
