Re: Brighton v Leeds Utd Match Thread - Kalvin Injured
Without Phillips and Raph we aren't at the races. Poveda....sure he's a lovely lad and wish him well but imo he is too easy to push off the ball and hasn't done anything yet that excites me. Just on the subject of corners, has anyone got any theories on why highly paid professional footballers in the main just can't get the ball past the first defender !!! Its not just Leeds, I watch virtually every Premier game televised and this applies to every team....its a real puzzler given that they have hours on the training pitch ???

MOT's Player RatingsCjay wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 6:44 pm He is but i cant remember his last genuinely good game?
The style we play means attacking players will invariably get goals and assists but when was the last time Harrison featured on the motm poll prominently for example? Top 3
I cant remember, certainly hasnt been recently.
Last time Jack had an average rating of 8 was twelve matches ago v Palace at ER
Only time Jack has been the highest rated player this season v Newcastle (h) in mid-December with a score of 9

We'd have got more end product out of Pablo had he been given 45 minutes, unfortunately the pecking order means he only gets a few minutes as a token gesture. We needed quality on the pitch to breakdown those giants today, sadly we totally lacked in that department.Cjay wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 6:49 pm I think its unfiar to judge Poveda based on cameos tbh.
He hasnt had a start and was for me bright and tried hard.
At least he tried to take people on and be different whereas his teammates resorted to hoofs into the box for Brighton's jolly green giants to head away.

I strongly suspect Pablo hasnt got the legs for this anymore.1964white wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 7:05 pm We'd have got more end product out of Pablo had he been given 45 minutes, unfortunately the pecking order means he only gets a few minutes as a token gesture. He certainly hasnt got the legs to play as a winger.
I love Pablo to but because of the man to man system if as i suspect Pablo hasnt.the legs anymore then he would be a total.liability unfortunately.
It wasnt uncommon last season for players to run away from Pablo as games wore on, we have to be realistic about what he is physically capable of now and personally i think the tracking runners bit is probably beyond him.
Younger players would run away from him and we simply cant have that with the man to man system.

We needed someone with a football brain on that pitch today to breakdown those giants.
What did Rodrigo & Poveda create today?

When I tally up the scores for the whole season I doubt Jack's average season rating will be above 6, not great for a player we intend to spend £12 million on although we need squad players & he may be a better impact player next season.

We dont for certain but its unlikely id say, the man for man system we play is unique and dont forget Bielsa has traditionally not used older players for that reason, they lack the legs for the system.
Ideally we need a younger Pablo.
Nothing but its not the offensive side of the game i doubt Pablo can do, its the defensive.

His final ball is just so inconsistent
Every now and again he comes up with a peach but 9 times out of 10 it's awful.
Klich was guilty of a few horror crosses and passes today too

I kind of agree but from the bits I've seen I think he's nowhere near this standard - but more than happy to be proven wrong!Cjay wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 6:49 pm I think its unfiar to judge Poveda based on cameos tbh.

If Pablo is on the bench then he should be capable of 45 minutes at a minimum. Otherwise he has no business there. Totally agree ‘64 that we needed a player with vision to unlock a team that’s built to defend. Pablo is that man, as we all know.
Sending in high crosses was meat and drink to that lot. Only Dallas got a difficult, but decent, shot away in the entire second half. Our approach was slow, predictable and brainless today. Barring an Alioski moment by Brighton we could still be there and not score.

Brighton fully deserved their win. They deserve credit for defending very well and attacking with verve. If they had a better goal-scorer they'd be much further up the table - assuming that that performance typified the way they usually play.
Un Marcelo Bielsa, solo hay un Marcelo Bielsa. Gracias Marcello. Marsching on together.

we were second class today.
an instrument badly out of tune.
a conductor who had lost his baton.
Carl Heinz Stockhausen cacophony.
Discord sonic nonsense.
no melody no harmony.
a musical disaster and performance.

Just caught up with the game as i went out yesterday aft. Worst performance of the season. Having just finished the game i can't remember anything of note by the team. I know our record is poor down there but that was terrible!

Re: Brighton v Leeds Utd Match Thread - Kalvin Injured
did you see the way that they lined up for corners four men on the six yard box and another four men further out for zonal marking
It was small potatoes for them.
and Ben White stampedes through the midfield like a stallion everybody watching him on his rampage and nobody tackling.
those were the two things that stood out for me.
their two goals were a result of a litany of disasters... poor tackle for a penalty and disastrous clearing for a well taken second goal.
to me our own performance is lost in a fog

Yet most of his core squad are late 20s and early 30s. We don't have a young team.Cjay wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 7:45 pm We dont for certain but its unlikely id say, the man for man system we play is unique and dont forget Bielsa has traditionally not used older players for that reason, they lack the legs for the system.

Agreed, if he can't contribute, he shouldn't be there. How does Roberts still need to prove he isn't good enough? The likes of Greenwood and Gelhardt will want out if they don't get a chance.

But thats usually a players peak.
27,28,29,30,31.
Decline starts after that and Pablo is 36.
We do need to start to refresh the team though imo, bring the age down and talent up.

Yep. But most of those players will be going into their 4th season of Bielsaball with barely a rest. We need to freshen it up with younger players and more rotation.

Re: Brighton v Leeds Utd Match Thread - Kalvin Injured
I agree, i did a thread on "the cycle" which i stand by.
The theory that especially for high pressing teams a natural cycle starts at season 3 whereby at that point a natural decline will start to set in and a squad needs to be refreshed.
We are now at that point and ignoring it will see us relegated, i firmly believe that and this coming transfer window is the most important in our recent history
