Anyone watch the U-23's that can give their take on Edmondson. I remember watching clips before Bielsa came and he looked class. Definitely thought he would have been in the squad this season, But Bielsa seems to have completely ignored him. I'm guessing Bielsa sees him as develop-able, because while every other striker has been sold or sent on loan, Edmondson never went anywhere.

Does he have a future at Leeds? Does he need to develop to Bielsa's style?

Who knows with this unorthodox genius of a manager we have, but my first guess is that it's because Bamford hasn't had any major injury issues this season and Roberts is the backup no9. If Bamford had been injured for any length of time we probably would've seen Ryan on the bench. If he wasn't part of Bielsa's ultimate plans then I think he would've been moved on already rather than kept around for two seasons.

If we win the title at Derby I'd be all in favour of giving some key youngsters like Ryan at least a taste of league action against Charlton, though you can't put too many on at once because even relatively poor teams in this league will make their lives very difficult - see Stoke in the League Cup.

I've just seen on Sky Sports News that Ryan Edmondson has injured his ankle in training at Aberdeen and is out for four months. He has returned to Leeds for treatment.
Terrible bad luck for the lad as it was a chance for him to get regular first team football until January at least.

Here's another U23 who was touted as the next big star after his substitute appearance vs QPR four years ago.

Edmondson loaned out to League Two club Port Vale today after loan spells with Aberdeen, Northampton & Fleetwood.

Hasn't really set the world alight during his loan period.

The worry I had with Edmonson was that he was effectively a man in a child's body at the age of 16. That physical advantage was huge when playing against similar ages but becomes a non existent advantage when playing against older players. A bit like Cresswell now for us he looks a real unit in comparison to players around him but may need a lot more than just that physical presence to make it at the top level. Hopefully Cresswell will make it, and hopefully for us but the huge majority of young players fail to make the step up and a lot don't even end up making it by moving to lower leagues either.

Edmondson was a Championship U23, had we not gotten promotion there would be a fair chance he's a squad player for our Championship team.

I recall all the moaning when Bates et al got rid of the U23's and now there's moaning we've re-established the teams... would posters rather we ignore the 23's and 18's again?

Our youth teams are particularly well run.

Liam Kitching was released by us and went to Harrogate when they were still in the National League. He is now playing in the Championship for Barnsley.

He his simply not good enough for the PL and IF we go down this season we have better young guys for the Championship.

I hope the loan deal we have just arranged for he cover 100% of his wages plus a little more

Fair enough I see what you mean - not moaning about the fact that we’ve got a proper under 23s and youth team set up, like we didn’t under Bates, but that the club/Orta appear to be getting their recruitment priorities wrong.

That's it, personally for the price we're paying for these talented kids it's just good business... By all means rant about the lack of signings for the first team (I'd like one player, think that's all we really need) but who we get for the reserves is nothing to do with that...

Can prove to be bargains though.

How much would Meslier & Struijk cost if we had to buy them today?

Sure they won't all work out but some will.
Gelhardt should already be considered part of the squad and certainly valued a lot more than we paid.

Drameh & Summerville two more we signed for the U23's have started games for the first team.

I'm expecting 2 or so to breakthrough each season with our policy.

Whoever eventually takes over from MB will see the full benefit.
