Match Thread Leeds Utd 0-3 Chelsea Match Thread - Post Match Debate.

Post by Ellandback1 »

Wednesday 11th May 19:30 | Elland Road

Chelsea are the visitors to Elland Road on Wednesday evening as Leeds look to take advantage of their recent poor run of form. Not only have Thomas Tuchel's men been knocked out of the Champions League, but they lost at Everton, and then surrendered a two goal lead to Wolves at the weekend, dropping two points. With only three games of the season left, Leeds will be desperate to get something from the match as they look to claw their way out of the bottom three. It's been almost 20 years (28th December 2002) since Leeds last beat Chelsea. First half goals from Woodgate and Milner giving Leeds fans some festive joy in front of just over 40,000 fans at Elland Road. What Leeds fans would give for a repeat performance.

Leeds face a wing-back crisis after Luke Ayling's sending off against Chelsea last weekend and Cody Drameh unable to be recalled from Cardiff plus Stuart Dallas sidelined for up to 18 months with a broken Femur. Liam Cooper is fit having aggravated his knee injury the other week and will come into the side along with Struijk, Bate and Rodrigo. It will be interesting to see whether the Marsch opts for five at the back with Koch, Llorente and Cooper in the middle of defence with Struijk and Raphinha at wing back. If he does go with four at the back who will move out right?

Mateusz Klich is dropped following his half time substitution against Arsenal. Lewis Bate is in starting line up to face his former club, the 19 year old having given an impressive account of himself against the Gunners. Patrick Bamford was said to have a 25% chance of playing but is not fit enough to make the bench. The 28 year old is recovering from Plantar Fasciitis (inflammation from the part of your foot that connects your heel bone to your toes). In his absence Rodrigo and James will play in the attacking positions. Joe Gelhardt can feel hard done to having been subbed just befor the half hour mark against Arsenal following Luke Aylings red card.

With one win out of their last five, Blues Manager Thomas Tuchel dragged his players to the training ground on Sunday, much to the anger of his prima donna's. They are desperate to stay ahead of Arsenal, but with the FA Cup final on Saturday, will they rest players?

Firpo will start tomorrow night.

Play a blinder and be everyone's darling.
Marsch OUT

We need to be cautious first 20 minutes or so, the atmosphere will be electric, I'll be in NE upper hoping to see us score a goal or two !!
I think he'll stick with firpo, either that or he drops him for the rest of the season, the last 3 games need to be near as possible the same team together, if we don't have injuries, he needs to use the subs wisely, not just chuck them on for the sake of it, it really has to be tactically correct, these games will not only define our season, but JM's future as well, get it right, he'll be lauded, get it wrong, he'll be loathed.

This looks a lot harder now than it did a few weeks ago, with Chelsea still looking to guarantee CL qualification-They should have done that weeks ago. Tomorrows side won't be far off first team I reckon, even allowing for Cup final on sat.
When things ain't going for you......

Hope he starts Joffy again.

Was just hoping for some team news on players etc, he's just been waffling on about Mother Therese, basketball, his wife, books, computers, JFK and Ghandi.

Nuff said Scooby ?

Leeds manager Jesse Marsch says he has an archive of material he uses to motivate players. The American says he works out what a player may need at a specific time.

"I have 52 articles, excerpts from books, that I sometimes give players when I think they need something," he says.

"Then I have hundreds of quotes that I use at different moments. I try to think how they fit with who I am and how we play football. I love quotes, learning from people of the past. Sports figures, historical figures, whatever. The key is understanding what messages to use at the right time.

I have some old 'SHOOT' manuals he can have if it helps find an attacking threat or an effort on goal.

Jeez i hope you guys get the chance to do all the gloating you want re Big Jesse and we actually some how stay up, but like i said yonks back, if we do this guy needs to be gone asap, so hope we lose our first 6 or 7 and he's up the road so the next brainbox can try and save us from relegation next year.

Wtf have we done to ourselves.

Right then.

We have just heard from Jesse Marsch who says he has an archive of quotes and inspirational material that he gives to players.

So, I want to know what quote, rhyme, poem or item inspires you when you need it.

What would you watch, read or sing seconds before going into a final-day relegation battle?

I'm on #bbcfootball.

I've just sent in ' I wandered lonely as a cloud' William Wordsworth.

I can just see the big Jesse getting them all in a huddle/cuddle now and reading it outloud 2 mins before k/o

Should do the trick

Apparently Cooper's fit. This could potentially create an attacking/half decent defending chance to go for all 3pts, but it's a huge gamble.
No gamble, no future ? He who dares wins an all that bollocks.....anyone for 3-4-3 ?

I might've come up with another plan coz i want Firpo out. How's about..

.....................Mes
......Llorente..Koch..Cooper
James..Phillips..Klich..Harrison
......Raphina...Joffy ...Rodney

That should do the trick and smash em to smithereens....yee ha we're staying up 3-1 Leeds!
