Re: Who would you sell?
Llorente, Costa and Roberts
Time to cash in on Llorente. At his best he is great, but too often he is a bombscare. Plenty of young options who will come through next season. Koch deserves a long run.
Costa never really got going in the Championship, never mind the Premier League. Faltered at Valancia, time to move him on.
Sorry Tyler but with Bate, Greenwood and Aaronson we have better options in there now.

I voted the exact same 3 players, raises 26M for which we can land a Noa Lang.YorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 5:18 pm Llorente, Costa and Roberts

Re: Who would you sell?
My thought has always been that Raphinha would go. And that would fund most of what we want to do in the transfer market. I'm going to assume that's still the case, even if Barca are skint like we're hearing.
Costa has to go based on the last year. He also doesnt fit Marsch's system.
There was Italian interest in James. I'd be OK with him leaving based on a tactical reshape. That would leave Harrison and Summerville as wide options in a narrow system.
Rodrigo might have a spot in March's system. Hope things work well but I'd be OK if he left too.
Sell Llorente - we have several CB's
Several players from our Championship squad could leave. But the money is smaller and not worth thinking about. If someone offers money for Klich, let him go. If not, he'll be fine on the bench. Same for Roberts.
Shackleton wasn't on the list. Don't think he fits JM's RB profile - could he make it in midfield?
My squad for next year
Meslier / Better Back Up
Drameh / Ayling (possibly a better signing but not a priority)
Fripo / Strujik / Hjelde (Would love to see a better LB - but I'm guessing they'll give Jr. another season)
Koch / Cresswell
Cooper / Strujik / Hjelde
Phillips / Forshaw / Dallas / Shackleton / Bate
Aaronson / One more AMC / Klich / Harrison / Summerville
A Number 10 / Greenwood / Roberts
Bamford / Gelhardt

I agree with Llorente even though I think he's a quality player. I agree because we have 3 first team CB's plus Cresswell and Hjelde can fill the benchYorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 5:18 pm Llorente, Costa and Roberts

Re: Who would you sell?
OK so will start by saying I don't want to sell Raphinha (obviously).
However I accept he is likely to go.
So I would sell Raphinha for £60mil but I'd like more.
I'd be tempted to sell KP because of doubts over his suitability in a midfield 2 and because of his injury record (he has missed 29 league games over the last 3 seasons through injury). But I'd hold fire on £50mil and not sell, although I'd be tempted at £60+mil.
I think Llorente has plenty of talent and technical ability but he is injury prone and therefore unreliable. I also think he has a mistake in him and lacks the physical attributes for English football. So I'd sell at £15mil.
Robin Koch has also really struggled injury wise since he arrived (even more so than Llorente amazingly). Before Brighton and Brentford I'd have sold but I thought he really stood up to be counted in.those final 2 games in an unfamiliar role and therefore I feel he is worth keeping. Also benefits from being a few years younger from the fast approaching 30 Llorente.
Helder Costa for £6m is a no brainer imo. Get anything we can for him and also get his significant wages off our wage bill.
Jack Harrison frustrates me more than practically any other LUFC player ever. Clear talent but he so so often makes the wrong decision or shows a lack of quality. He goes games in a row being absolutely awful and even when he pops up with a goal or assist he generally has done nothing else (as is reflected in his almost total.non existence on our MOTM polls this season. That being said his numbers since promotion are impressive so it isn't as simple as it should be. That being said I think we must commit to Jesse Marsch's style and he doesn't use wingers. We need funds to rebuild and evolve and.i think £35m is a good price for Harrison.
Tyler Roberts for £5mil is another no brainer. Let him go elsewhere and try and rebuild his career.
I love Mateusz Klich. With Faaip and Norm and a few others we were the original Klich cheerleaders on this forum even when he was shipped out on loan wrongly. He for me is a proper cult hero as well as being a lovely and funny bloke. However as mentioned before it's rumoured he actually has wanted to leave for 12 months as he is thoroughly exhausted (which tbf he has looked looked a long time). Additionally he clearly has no natural role in Marsch's system and combined with his advancing age I feel its right to let him go.
Pascal Struijk has definitely regressed this season and £20mil is a good chunk of money for a player whose proper level you can't be sure of yet. That being said I like Struijk and would hold fire on a sale for 1 more season.
Junior Firpo has been another Orta flop simple as that. I would sell for £10mil because I am confident we could get better for the same money.
Rodrigo has been the worst value money signing under Orta. £27mil and likely our highest paid player. £12mil and his wages off the wage bill would be good business all things considered.
I'd definitely like a more proven goalie to challenge Meslier and do think he gets overrated at times but he has been badly let down by those infront of him and in the dugout last season. I'd keep.
Very tempted to sell James, getting our money back is probably the best scenario for us at the moment. Combined with the fact Jesse doesnt use wingers selling James makes sense. But you can't ignore his pressing abilities and pace. I've already sold quite a few players so I'd give James 1 more season to prove Orta and Bielsa were correct.
I wouldn't sell Cresswell or Summerville.
Bamford is a difficult one. On the surface why would you sell your top scorer over recent seasons? But he has spent 2 of his 4 seasons here injured for most of the time. His striking record during his career has never been particularly prolific and he is fast approaching 30. Bielsa didn't play Bamford because he was a great talented striker he liked him because he did a lot of the donkey work. Because of that because of his injury record because of his less than prolific career because of his fast advancing age I'd I'd tempted to sell. However I think I'd keep because we are light on strikers and he is despite all of the above our most proven striker.
So for me I'd sell.
Raph (reluctantly)
Llorente
Costa
Harrison
Roberts
Klich
Firpo
Rodrigo.
That would give us £145million and Llorente, Harrison, Firpo and Costa are likely some of our top earners as well so that helps.
However I accept he is likely to go.

Re: Who would you sell?
Deeply concerning when you see how popular the picks of some of Orta's most expensive signings are.
Firpo, James, Rodrigo, Costa and Llorente.
Cost us around £107million
Most voters would be happy to sell them for £68mill combined.
A nearly £40mil loss.
A shocking indictment of Orta and it has to be said Bielsa's recruitment.

Re: Who would you sell?
Excellent summing up again Cjay, pretty much agree with all of it based on the sale prices you envisage. If we could get £35m for Harrison then yes I’d sell but not too sure we’d get that much and would be reluctant to sell for anything less than £30m. Not sure we’d get £6m and £5m respectively for Costa and Roberts but I’d get rid of the pair at any price anyway.Cjay wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 9:13 pm OK so will start by saying I don't want to sell Raphinha (obviously).

Neither Firpo or Rodrigo have lived up to their billing and I think we’ve seen enough now to be pretty sure that they are not really suited/good enough for the Premier League. Firpo is very suspect defensively and therefore has to resort to fowl play and consequently gets booked far too often. Rodrigo is the biggest disappointment though and, as you say, the worst value for money of the lot. It was obvious from quite early on in his time at Leeds that, whilst being a clever footballer with some deft touches, he was never robust enough or quick enough for Premier League football.
Would be sad to see Klich go of course, but he looked out of sorts and exhausted most of the time last season and age is not really on his side.

Only release three players from a squad that almost relegated us. Costa never featured & Klich who wasn't a regular starter. Agree, we need to keep much of the squad & build on it. Dallas, Ayling & Cooper would all be decent back-up players on the bench next season imo!faaip wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 4:31 pm I'd let Klich move if he wanted, sell James IF we could get the 25, Sell Costa for whatever.. I'd keep Raph and Kalvin if we could. IMO we have a mid table starting 11 playing 4-1-4-1. We'd need to spend 200 plus while keeping what we have to finish top 6 consistently

The key is to evaluate properly. For all we were nearly relegated it was still the same squad that finished 9th the season before and very likely wouldn't have flirted with relegation had so many not being injured. Now don't get me wrong if we had a blank chequebook then it would be a different story. As such it really is a case of saying who is decent enough to be in the squad and do a job cos let's face it if they ain't good enough to be in the squad then we ain't gonna get much money for them. For me it is more a case of adding 2 or 3 quality signings (more if first teamers leave but if they do we should have decent moeny coming in to replace them). Key thing is to strengthen the core, or spine if you prefer. We need to have someone capable of playing as a striker, and scoring goals, if Bamford is out. We need someone capable of playing a defensive midfield role properly if KP is out and we need our centrebacks to be solid no matter which two it is.1964white wrote: ↑Sun May 29, 2022 9:15 am Only release three players from a squad that almost relegated us. I wouldn't pay £35mil for Harrison but in the inflated domestic market where bang average players go for £20mil+ I felt that its possible we could get a bit more on stats alone.
Likewise Roberts as I explained to Velo, if Solanke can go for £19mil based on 8 career league goals surely we can get £5mil for Roberts?
Costa I suspect will end up being loaned out or released on a free.
Rodrigo was always a strange signing I felt. He never suited Bielsa's system as he himself admitted he preferred to play as a second striker which we plainly didnt use.
Combined with his age and cost it was always unlikely to work out.
Clear talent but he simply never fitted the system and to me he looked thoroughly fed up by the Brentford game, barely celebrated the Harrison goal.

Re: Who would you sell?
I thought Valencia were buying Helder Costa.
Raphinha is going of that i have no doubt.
So, for me, i would sell
1- Raphinha
2- Helder Costa
3- Tyler Roberts
4- Mateusz Klich
5- Jamie Shackleton
6- Ryan Edmondson
7- Kun Temenzhkov
I reckon Luke Ayling has another season with us, and his wages aren't too high.
We need to keep Jack Harrison. He gets way too much stick on this forum, imho.
I'd be made up if Kalvin stays with us, but i think he'll be off to Man City.

No back-up Keeper, DM, AM & Striker was a suicidal approach last season, consequently none of our CB's developed a decent partnership due to injuries & a weak spine.
We need to repair it gradually over the next two years.

If we are talking value then i would bite the hand at Harrison @ £35m, same as Meslier for £30m... Goalies are not that difficult to replace imo. If we had ambition we would be building a team around Raph & Kalv as they are the only current two who i think could maybe play in the top 6 teams. The rest are a mixture of flops, potential and hopefuls.

And probably the bill for JKA still to land with a thud through the letter box...Cjay wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 9:33 pm Deeply concerning when you see how popular the picks of some of Orta's most expensive signings are.
Firpo, James, Rodrigo, Costa and Llorente.
Cost us around £107million
Most voters would be happy to sell them for £68mill combined.
A nearly £40mil loss.
A shocking indictment of Orta and it has to be said Bielsa's recruitment.
I agree with that list of players to get rid of - they are all the players which I already mentally had on my list to sell in the summer.
I wasn't in favour of the club signing either Costa and Harrison at the time. Harrison was pretty poor in the championship I thought, but people on here said it was a ' no-brainer ' to sign him permanently. He has improved his finishing at least, but I've always been amazed that he has probably started more games over the last 4 seasons than any other Leeds player. It's almost as though he has a unalienable right to be picked for some strange reason.
Rodrigo for me ranks somewhere close to the Tomas Brolin signing. Each of those signings looked good on paper, and each time there was excitement that we were signing a player with an international pedigree. Brolin was slow and not up to the PL as well. I know you have to take into account what a £ was worth in 1995, however the Brolin signing I think was at least only about 1/5th or 1/6th what the club paid for Rodrigo as its club record signing.

Re: Who would you sell?
Raphinha- £60mil. Would keep as think he is worth more especially if Barca want him.
Kalvin Phillips- £50mil. Would sell as don't think he will be as influential in a JM system.
Diego Llorente- £15mil. Would sell. Takes too many risks and gets bullied too easily by the more physical forwards. Have good cover at cb with Cresswell and Hjelde.
Robin Koch- £15mil. Would keep, Can play CB, RB and DM ( if necessary)
Helder Costa -£6mil. - Would sell, Not PL quality
Jack Harrison- £35mil. -sell. For this price a no brainer though would like to keep as I think he is starting to show his potential
Tyler Roberts- £5mil. Would sell, Not PL Quality
Mateusz Klich- £2mil. Would sell, Best days behind him now.
Pascal Struijk- £20mil. Would keep.
Junior Firpo- £10mil. - Would sell. Not been great so far and struggles with his defending and positioning.
Rodrigo- £12mil. Would sell, Been a massive flop in truth.
Illan Meslier- £30mil. Would sell, would prefer an older more experienced keeper who commands his box.
Dan James- £25mil. Would sell. One trick pony, all pace and effort and no end product.
Joe Gelhardt- £10mil Keep. Need to keep a hold of our young talent.
Crysencio Summerville- £3mil Keep As Above
Charlie Cresswell- £3mil Keep As Above
Patrick Bamford- £15mil sell. Will never have a season like his first in the Prem and unsure how this latest injury will pan out. Has been a bit injury prone since we signed him tbf.

Re: Who would you sell?
I would only sell Costa, Firpo and Rodrigo and no doubt release Casilla on a mutual - even though he isn’t on the list. All 4 are probably hoping to return to Spain. I believe loans with purchase options are the best we can hope for.
Wholesale changes are not feasible in one window, I appreciate this is a fantasists dream but the reality is we need additions. There are many I would like to change but I am playing the realist card.
I would also keep Roberts. He isn’t a striker that is for certain but I always had hope for him. Perhaps not having to play in MB’s system may reveal there is a player in there yet. He has a part to play in the squad currently.
The reality is that when a team is in the relegation zone and scratching for results form and confidence dips. Struijk has not become a bad player and neither has Meslier or Llorente etc. They are the victims of a torrid season where for the most part we had no cohesion or chemistry. Panic stricken must not make a mistake football destroys form.
We need quality additions to change the squad the psychology. Marsh likes a big squad - we need 5/6 additions as others have highlighted. I expect O’Brien will probably be next. He reminds me s little bit of Forshaw but is more expansive with a turn of foot.
Apologies for being boring but a garage sale is not going to happen.
