Re: Leeds United v Villarreal Match Thread
After going to the match yesterday it seems we could be in for a very difficult season without further signings.
Gudmunsson - Whether he's sound defensively remains to be seen but certainly showed enough to make you think he's a decent acquisition.
Stach - Another successful piece of recruitment and should be a mainstay of the side.
Longstaff - Still early days but has all the hallmarks of a journeyman professional and so not sure why we were so desperate tp get this signing done.
Nmecha - Will work hard up top and as he signed on a free transfer then there cannot really be any complaints.
Bijol - A lot of money for a defender who lacks pace but will always be giving 100%.
Schmidt - Sorry but won't be able to cut it in the PL.

Obviously, I was there too Jammy, and, like you, I was a little bit underwhelmed. However, you have to remember that this was just a friendly, pretty much a kick about in the sun and I am not looking too much into it.Jammy 07 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 03, 2025 9:36 am After going to the match yesterday it seems we could be in for a very difficult season without further signings.

I did, though, think Longstaff did quite well and I think he will be quite the astute acquisition as the season goes on. I also liked Gudmundsson, but if he is going to be a corner taker permanently, his delivery has to be much better.

Best dead ball of the game came from Stach but at 6'4" you kinda want him in the box at free kicks.

I was slightly disappointed with Longstaff, we all see things differently.Barlow Boy wrote: ↑Sun Aug 03, 2025 12:30 pm Obviously, I was there too Jammy, and, like you, I was a little bit underwhelmed. I'm impressed with Stach & Gudmundsson though.

Ratings & comments
8 Darlow - Two decent saves & looked assured.
4 Schmidt - OK going forward, but a nightmare defensively. Out of his depth.
7 Rodon - Both CBs solid & steady. Joe played 90 minutes
7 Struijk
7+ Gudmundsson - Full or running going forward, defensively sound too
7 Ampadu - Showed his class with some great decisions on the ball and first half passing. Was quieter in the second half but added physicality when it was needed. Ethan played 90 minutes
8 Stach - Excellent passer of the ball, prepared to put his foot in when needed, and fired in a cross that could easily have produced a goal.
6 Longstaff - Showed awareness, sightly disappointed with his display
7 Gnonto - Clever play drew free-kicks or helped him keep possession.
8+ Aaronsson - Ran his little legs off for 81 minutes. Some lovely touches & instrumental in making our equalising goal. Easily my Man of the Match.
7 Nmecha - Tidy enough and held a threat from scant service. Tested the keeper twice, a lovely shot on the turn saved.
6 Meslier - Made one good save. Flapped a bit, causing Gudmundsson a brief injury. Distribution, not as good Darlow's.
7+ Bijol - defensively sound & dangerous offensively at one of our set-piece.
8 Gruev - How good was Ilia? Some sharp crisp passing, never conceded the ball once. Flighted in two decent crosses in the final three minutes.
7 Piroe - Some nice touches & another pre-season goal to boot.
7 Ramazani - Lively & full of tricks
7 Tanaka - Helped change the dynamic and give Leeds a bit more craft on the ball.
Ramazani
7 Byram - Steady us on the right-hand flank with some sound defensive work & got on the end of a Gruev cross in the final minute.

Only watched the 11 minute LUTV highlights. But they did make us look quite good.

Re: Leeds United v Villarreal Match Thread
I was wondering how similar Villarreal's line-up tonight was in comparison to their team at ER, as I couldn't find that information online.rich_leeds64 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 06, 2025 9:37 pm 9 of Villarreals starting XI tonight started against LUFC on Saturday
Thank you, Rich.

Perhaps their result against Arsenal will put our result into perspective for a few people now.

There is more chance of it snowing in hell, than changing some peoples views on here
Changing thier views would be like saying they were wrong and thats not what they do
