Not complaining at all. The rules are what they are. We get the breaks some times, they go against us others. I think we've all seen that VAR doesn't necessarily change that. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 9:38 am No point worrying about what VAR may or may not have done. You can concede it's very close (inches) and I do think the EFL have it right in benefit of the doubt to the attacker. We've benefited from that this season too
The ref was in error to give the FK being conned by the forward but I've no problems with the goal.

Re: Swansea City v Leeds Utd Match Thread
That is a contradiction because we did defend it well as we had them offside. If we don't try to get them offside then it is in theory easier to follow your man. If they'd scored it and it hadn't been offside then it is poor defending.1964white wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 9:46 am You are too lenient mate.
There was everything wrong with that goal.
Not a free-kick.
Offside.
And we didn't defend it well.
Why do we allow the tallest opposition players to dominate us, generally having one of our midgets marking them? This time it was Tanaka who is 6ft tall not following his marker, although the likes of Rodon or Struijk should have been closer to him, imo!
Swansea's 2nd & 3rd goals were a mess too!
Our defence will have to change at the next level, as PL players are clinical & proficient on the ground & in the air.
We won't get away with that type of defending in the PL.
They need to get on board with the semi automated offsides - it is ridiculous that it has been shown to work but that the premier league won't use it because the ball manufacturers can't make their balls properly to have chips in them (we should simply tell them that we will use other balls till they sort themselves out but hey ho).

Exactly. I'd be furious if the player was a yard offside but for me at the weekend that wasn't offside enough to be able to call it such... Good goal once the free kick was wrongly givenJohn in Louisiana wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 3:54 pm Not complaining at all. The rules are what they are. Bamford's goal (was it at Palace) was ruled offside by a finger. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 3:58 pm Exactly. I'd be furious if the player was a yard offside but for me at the weekend that wasn't offside enough to be able to call it such... Good goal once the free kick was wrongly given

That definitely isn't true, he regularly displays great feet and precision finishing that aren't laid on a plate for him1964white wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 3:42 pm It's a toss up between the pair of them, they both have different qualities. Piroe & Joseph will suffice whilst we are in the championship.
Piroe requires his opportunities laying on a plate for him.
Class forwards such as Salah, Saka, Haaland, etc can make chances for themselves.

Had great feet Mark and lovely finisher.
Today though he wouldn't run around enough
Joseph is flavour of the month, talented lad but not starter class imo, raw and full of potential.

I know and there was another Bamford one ruled out for no reason... That's completely wrong

We've conceded half of our 12 goals against Pompey & Swansea, two of the average/poor teams in the championship.
Swansea had only scored 11 goals up until Sunday.

And 1 assist don't forget
Joseph has 1 goal in 10 incidentally (set up by Piroe)

Average position of teams Joseph has scored or assisted against when starting 18th.
Average goals conceded by those teams 21
Average of teams Piroe has scored or assisted against when starting 8th
Average goals conceded by those teams 18
In hindsight you're right, start Joseph tomorrow, good against the crap teams

Btw, I'm not Joseph's biggest fan.
I kept quiet on the Joseph subject when every man & his dog were banging on, he should start games last season, as I wasn't totally convinced he was ready for championship football at that time.
We have a situation where we have two No.9s who score very few goals when either one of them starts a game, a conundrum for Farke & our fans.

I think Farke is getting Joseph badly wrong personally. The quality is there and now everyone is judging him on 5-15 minutes off the bench

Re: Swansea City v Leeds Utd Match Thread
In the competition I’ve been backing the starting 9 to score first every game this season more or less, and can’t remember either of them being too successful.
In out and out goal scoring terms neither fills me with great confidence week to week.
What does a Gykoceres or Watkins or Toney have that our lads don’t? They were all Championship strikers recently. Can it be coached or is it a natural ability? If the latter, how do we spot the next example?
Answers on a postcard.

It's more instinctive positioning & natural ability, Dave.Carrick Dave wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 12:11 am In the competition I’ve been backing the starting 9 to score first every game this season more or less, and can’t remember either of them being too successful.

Mateo has missed some glorious chances.
I enjoy his work rate.

Re: Swansea City v Leeds Utd Match Thread
Lee Chapman, natural ability to know where to be ( usually 2 yards out ) and the desire to get any single part of his body on the ball. I think confidence plays a massive part as well, remember listening to a Didier Drogba interview before an FA cup final and he said most strikers go into a game hoping to score whereas he went in convinced he was going to score and he did.Carrick Dave wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 12:11 am In the competition I’ve been backing the starting 9 to score first every game this season more or less, and can’t remember either of them being too successful.

In my humble opinion Piroe is a natural goal scorer whereas Joseph is a harder worker without that killer instinct, hopefully they get enough goals between them to get us up but we’d need an upgrade for the Prem. Farke is right sticking with Piroe as starter but Joseph has to show more coming off the bench to give DF a reason to pick him.
Would Piroe have scored the Joseph sitter v Swansea, I reckon so, would Joseph have scored it if he had been on from the start, who knows but I doubt it.
