That would be the concern.White Riot wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 4:18 pm Yeah, I'd agree with that.
It's whether Farke and the players get scared and freeze up at the moment of truth. We've had lots of that recently.
When it's mattered recently both players and manager have been found lacking.
Early goal would hopefully settle those nerves

I thought Norwich were always pretty tame and civil?
Maybe Chelsea, Scum or Millwall in disguise?

If we do play the same way on Thursday then hopefully our crowd won't go into early panic mode and make it a nervy night. Against Blackburn it was ridiculous when the cameras were filming the fans who looked a bundle of nerves even in the first half when we were missign chances - it definitely, in my opinion, then gets to the players and make them edgy.
We need to try and control the match, make it so that Norwich don't get a sniff and hope that we can score a goal.
It is a v fine balance for DF getting it right for us.
If we are too good, oppo's lock up, frustrate us and find our Achilles heal on the counter.
Way too slow of a build up from us helps the oppo's more than us.
I'm worried about Norwich parking the bus on Thursday neet.
I don't want us 'all guns blazing' and even worse would be trying to 'bring them out', much will depend on Norwich, he got the balance right today to not concede, with a quite obvious impact on attacking play.

We definitely haven't gone for the win plenty of times this season, we've plodded and almost bored the fans to death plenty of times.weasel wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 4:26 pm This is why I agreed with Farke when he said how it was the start of the season that killed us. Besides we were 2nd in the final 10 games two or three times and just needed wins vs teams we should beat (Watford and Sunderland for example).
I don't think we can go the same way on Thursday, certainly not from the start.
Every second its 0-0 and we are creating nothing fans will get nervous.
Whilst a massively dull approach today it was perfectly sensible given our away struggles all season and the Norwich form at home this season.
At home given the record Norwich have away and our better home form you'd expect a much more front foot approach and to put the pressure on?
The longer we sit back as we did today at times or pass around keeping possession for the sake of it the more nervous the ground will get.
I think getting the fans into it early on and giving them something to cheer is vital.
The last thing we need is an ever nervous growing Elland Road with a group of players and manager who've shown in the run in they can be easily rattled.
Sensible today from Farke, a similar approach at home isn't imo.
A fast start push them back then try and dictate the game and get some early chances.

If we’ve had 12 letters how many have other teams had? No context as usual.

We've had hand ball goals given, offside goals given, off side goals disallowed against us that shouldn't have been.
Have we had some bad decisions? Absolutely
We've benefited plenty of times as well.
It's not an accurate statement to say we'd have been promoted with VAR because a whole league of teams who probably point to plenty of there own letters and bad decisions.

Come on!
Most important thing was not conceeding or losing
Lets give it our all in the return leg!
No huffing and puffing without end product
We need an end product nothing else will do
As i am worried about the chances if it goes to pens

Of course it’s an illogical comment from Farke tbh. You’d have to factor in absolutely every bad call for all teams and then display that as a point lost or gained.Cjay wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 7:16 pm We've had hand ball goals given, offside goals given, off side goals disallowed against us that shouldn't have been.

But I’d agree with him in the sense he’s saying it’s not good enough that VAR isn’t in a league that feeds the PL. That’s knuckle dragging stupidity

How often does VAR get moaned about in the Prem? Every decision scrutinised.
Even offside isn't universally agreed on.
Personally until its a pretty flawless system I'd rather not have it.

If on Thursday we have to grind Norwich down then so be it and we definitely shouldn't be influenced tactically by our fanbase not being able to appreciate the benefits of a possession based gameplan.

I think they'd appreciate a possession based gameplan with signs of a threat.
Do that and it'll be fine.
Playing 750 passes that barely pass the halfway line is when people will get nervous and frustrated.
Imo harnessing the crowd at Elland Road is vital, you have to give them things to cheer for that

In my experience all the best atmospheres at ER have been when the crowd has lifted the team and not the other way around, Then when the team responds the fans raise it again to a whole new level.Cjay wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 7:47 pm I think they'd appreciate a possession based gameplan with signs of a threat.

Maybe those days have gone though because as you say the prevailing mood now seems to be one of anxiety until we're in front. The tension coming from the terraces against Blackburn for example was palpable even at 0-0 in the first half.

A clean sheet is advantage to Leeds. DF's careful approach to this game will most probably be mirrored by Norwich when they visit ER with a defensive siege game plan.
It could be a frustrating night on Thursday but one in which Leeds change the match with a goal and the later they score the better.

Given our form and performance levels for months it's understandable the fans get frustrated or nervous.
And tbh the football isn't really thrilling and edge of your seat stuff at the best of times so only so much enthusiasm the fans can muster without encouragement?
But as you say maybe the players need the fans as well?
I'd expect the fans to be pretty raucous at kick off anyway so hopefully they see enough in the opening minutes to continue?
If we revert to the pass pass pass stuff and offer no threat whilst looking sloppy and nervous then it's only a matter of time before the crowd energy drops.
Personally think the home crowd has been very patient and understanding most of the season and today as well.

Where’s all this stuff come from about the crowd on Thursday ?.
Yes, of course, it will be edgy but I can guarantee we will be right behind the players, the noise will be deafening and if the players can’t be lifted by it then nothing will get them going.

Sorry but some fans are not right behind particular players and everytime they make the slightest error they come down on them like a tonne of bricks.Barlow Boy wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 9:17 pm Where’s all this stuff come from about the crowd on Thursday ?.

Take Firpo for example where many fans (near me) were desperate for him to get a red card against Southampton so he'd be banned for the play offs. Numerous moans and groans towards other players as well which are definitely audible to the players on the pitch.
Honestly sometimes these days if feels more like attending a pantomime than a football match and honestly hand on heart I think we can at times be an incredibly tough crowd to play in front of.
