Rodon is used to playing in a 2 and knowing what to do and taking responsibility. Sometimes trickier knowing where your position is meant to be in a 3, who is meant to be meeting the opposition player, who is meant to be marking the other player etcThe Subhuman wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 11:29 pm Was interesting to me though, once Bornauw came off Rodon came to life in his favourite RCB in a back 2, he was excellent last few minutes.

He's a cnut.
I wish we'd signed him when Everton got him from Burnley. Could've, Should've.

I think the Ipswich players proved they were better than just league 1 players given the points total that team achieved.
Was just a change to his preferred formation.
We spent 95% of the 2nd half barely getting past the halfway line.

Depends on position imo.DDB220 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 11:25 pm Tbh I do not rate Longstaff highly, but he has the experience of being in a relegation dog fight at this level. We will need him back and match fit. I certainly rate him higher than Gruev, simply because you need either strength or pace at this level in the modern game and he has neither.
Holding midfielder, sniffing out danger, Gruev
Box to box run around type, Longstaff.

It's a combination of poise and technique, strikers have it because it is their bread and butter. Stach is actually pretty good, it's just a pity that a couple of our better chances fell to others.Carrick Dave wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 11:34 pm Stupid grievance I know, but every single game we shoot over the bar from the edge of the area 3/4 times, players leaning back and wasting good attacking opportunities.
Okafor, Aaronson, Stach, Gruev, Bogle, primary offenders.
Why can’t we train our players to get their heads over the ball and hit the target, simple concept and they get paid enough.
Any shot on target above 1 foot high unacceptable.
Being put off by incoming challenges isn’t a defence. Hit the strike on target and if it’s blocked it’s blocked.
If not you work the keeper more often.
Frustrating.

It is not easy to strike a ball exactly as you would want to with little time (snap shot) or on the run. Takes amazing muscle memory technique and a s**t load of hours on the training ground. Dead ball situation is different and there are far less excuses.

He is too light weight. Intelligent positionally and times his tackles well but if a player gets by him he has no power of recovery. I had no problem with his yellow. He had to do that as Ndiaye would have left him in his wake.
You need more than that at this level. Good sub for me in certain games where we have dominance and want to maintain control but not a starter.

It was still an attacking change to bring on an attacking player and take off a defender. Many managers clinging on tend to bring on a defender for an attacker. I know you want to attack Farke at every opportunity but bringing an attacker on for a defender is clearly not hanging on for a draw.
Perhaps Mr Farke has seen our stats concerning second half concessions especially late goals and has decided to go attacking rather than defensive. Clearly you find him to be an offensive manager.

I think that's the case. I thought Gruev had a decent match. But when he got the yellow card, I called for him to be replaced by Tanaka to protect him against getting a 2nd yellow. No other reason than that.

Re: Everton v Leeds United Match Thread
Overall I was pleased with all our players and the performance. They all looked like they belonged at this level. Bornaauw was excellent. When Bijol is back we will have solid options for the back 3.
The issue for me is we sat back too deep in the second half. Whether that was simply Everton's reshaping and replacements causing a big improvement in their energy, or us being a bit over confident is - now - irrelevant I suppose.
But playing away to a good team at this level, you cant try to sit on a 1 up lead for 45 minutes.
Hindsight is 20/20 of course, but you could argue Farke couldve replaced Aaronson with Gnonto or Buenanonte at half time. It was obvious Moyes was going to change things up radically. We did nothing to disrupt them settling into attacking mode in the first 20 minutes of the second half.

Post match Farke:
'Everton are a top, well-managed side with so much quality on the bench,' added Farke. 'It was not to be and we have to respect their quality, take the point and move on.'
Absolutly
dont forget these are GOOD TEAMS we have been playing the last couple of months
However against the burnleys/ west hams.. there is ZERO EXCUSE for not taking all 3 points

Reflecting on last night's result this morning. Its one defeat in 10 now which is good at this level.
We're difficult to beat if nothing else.
The number of times we've lost leads is frustrating though. We could be in a so much better position but if we win the key home games against Wolves. Burnley and Forest we will stay up.

Re: Everton v Leeds United Match Thread
If the two halves were reversed last night we would be hailing a great performance and comeback and all would be rosy in the garden this morning but we would still only have 1 point.
I said during the game that our lads had put in a massive shift in the first half and we would need to use our subs wisely but for whatever reason DF either doesn’t trust our bench or doesn’t know how to use it. Aaronson was everywhere in the first half but we know he’s going to run out of steam at some point so we need to plan for that but our subs made us weaker instead of stronger.
In a game we could have won and equally could have lost a point away is still a good result but these dropped points and lost opportunities could come back to haunt us, the Arsenal game is a bit of a free hit but the Forest game could be the first of a few cup finals for us.
I’ll repost these stats to keep things in perspective.
No side has lost fewer Premier League games since the start of December than Leeds United (one), while only Aston Villa (22), Manchester City (21), Arsenal (20), Manchester United and Fulham ( both 17 ), have collected more points in that time than their 15.
Not bad for a newly promoted team.

We are 6th over our last eleven games as I've posted on our dedicated Leeds United thread, that hardly anybody reads or responds - https://www.motforum.com/phpbb/viewtopi ... 1#p1352501CUSSIE01 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 27, 2026 8:12 am If the two halves were reversed last night we would be hailing a great performance and comeback and all would be rosy in the garden this morning but we would still only have 1 point.

As for Brenden last night, he spent the second-half, constantly making poor passes & losing possession, he wasn't the only guilty culprit.

Not his fault, Farke left him on way too long. He still gave it everything but he had nothing left to hold up the ball, make successful runs and support DCL..1964white wrote: ↑Tue Jan 27, 2026 8:41 am We are 6th over our last eleven games as I've posted on our dedicated Leeds United thread, that hardly anybody reads or responds - https://www.motforum.com/phpbb/viewtopi ... 1#p1352501

Agreed, he kept looking around for attacking support and none came, he held on as long as he could until Everton had three players surrounding him and eventually won the ball off him.The Subhuman wrote: ↑Tue Jan 27, 2026 9:02 am Not his fault, Farke left him on way too long. We fully deserved a point at least. However IMO we must stop the tippy tappy passing just outside, or even inside, our penalty area. One false pass is likely to end in disaster as it almost did on two occasions.

Didn't our goal originate from some smart direct passing from deep in our own half?Tom the Cat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 27, 2026 9:54 am We fully deserved a point at least.
