Match Thread Leeds Utd v West Brom Match Thread - UNCUT HIGHLIGHTS.

Post by Ellandback1 »

Friday 18th August 8:00pm | Elland Road

Carlos Corberan returns to Elland Road for the first time in three years, with a West Brom side intent on building momentum, after edging past Swansea City last weekend. Up until then, the Baggies hadn't had the best of starts. They lost on the opening day of the season at Ewood Park, and were then dumped out of the League Cup by Stoke City.

That's nothing compared to their 22/23 campaign, where they found themselves second to bottom after 16 games, at which point Corberan took the reigns. They won ten out of their next 12 games and looked destined for the play offs. In February, he turned down the chance of succeeding Jesse Marsch at Elland Road, deciding he was better off at the Hawthorns, signing a new contract in the process. They missed out on the play offs by three points, after which he suddenly became interested in the role vacated by Sam Allardyce. The board opted for Daniel Farke over the young Spaniard. Did they make the right choice? Only time will tell!

Leo Hjelde suffered a concussion in training and will join Liam Cooper, Patrick Bamford, Crysencio Summerville, Stuart Dallas, Junior Firpo and Mateo Joseph on the sidelines. Sam Greenwood is back in training, but having missed the entire pre-season, is short of match fitness and will make the bench. Luis Sinisterra and Wilfred Gnonto are training seperatley from the squad whilst their contractual issues are resolved. Though with The Athletic reporting that Gnonto has handed in a written transfer request, things look like they could drag on until the end of the window.

Joe Rodon will make his first start alongside Pascal Struijk in the centre of defence whilst Ayling and Byram will start in the wing back positions. Ampadu, Shackleton, Gray, James, Gelhardt and Rutter all start. The bench is made of of Klaesson, Darlow, Cresswell, Drameh, Gyabi, Bate and Greenwood.

The last time these two sides met at Elland Road, was towards the back end of the 2019-20 season, a game which Leeds won 3-1. They could do with a similar scoreline on Friday night. A bit of the Pablo inspired magic with a goal after 16 seconds would certainly help to settle the nerves!

I'd like to see a good winning confident performance however another defeat and I'd be very concerned for the future.

West brom been in this league a while and usually hover around top 10. I will be a very difficult game tougher than Birmingham and can't remember who we played our first home game.

Setting off a bit earlier to the game to accommodate for the Friday night traffic.

I have never liked night games, but Friday nights really is taking the p*ss.

Football is for the fans 🤬🤬🤬

Do Willy and Luis still get their weekly wages ?

That's another winner if they don't.

Friday night traffic will be horrendous.

We are setting off at the usual time, thank god it's a 8pm kick-off or else I'd be a bit concerned we make it on time.

The 8pm kick-off is a pain though, as I won't get home until after midnight :(

May see you on the concourse, mate.

We will get beat if that's the team. What a shame as the team that played Cardiff was great up top.

Why BG ?

He's nowhere near his final 11 yet, what's the problem, we can all see what he's up against.

I'm dreading getting beat but i'm expecting it if i'm honest, the current players available are just not good enough, we're very close to scraping the barrel.

It doesn't take much of a run to go on in the Championship to get you right up there, we've got to get to this International break to re assess where we're at, i'll be very worried myself if he's still only got these players that he has available for the Brom game then.

Very worried indeed, but atm we can't expect miracles, a win is a complete bonus imo.

They seem to suggest both squads are in disarray but perhaps the Baggies are in a slightly better shape.

Look at the difference in funds from assets sold between us (4m) Southampton (130) & Leicester (79). 😂 you can only laugh. It’s not funny 😭
