Match Thread Harrogate Town v Leeds Utd Match Thread

Post by Ellandback1 »

Harrogate Town v Leeds United
Friday 19th July@ 19:30 | CNG Stadium

Leeds kick-off their pre-season friendlies tonight with a trip to Harrogate Town

Whilst the emphasis will be put on fitness levels rather than the scoreline, it will be interesting to see whether Wilfred Gnonto (Everton) and Junior Firpo (Real Betis) have been strongly linked with moves away from Elland Road will have any input this evening.

We may have seen the last of Archie Gray, Glen Kamara and Liam Cooper, we can look forward to seeing Joe Rodon back in action as a fully fledged White. He is likely to be joined by midfielder Joe Rothwell, who joined on a season long loan from Bournemouth last week.

Pascal Struijk may play a small part in proceedings, but having been out of action for six months, will be introduced gradually. Brendon Arronson club play his first game for Leeds in over 16 months, having abandoned the club in their time of need; but he's back in the fold now, and must prove himself.

Patrick Bamford has not returned to pre-season training yet following the knee injury he sustained against Middlesbrough towards the end of April. Much emphasis may be placed on the likes of Charlie Crew, Mateo Joseph and Joe Gelhardt; fringe players that have something to prove.

Projecting this line up will be like pissing in the wind but

Meslier
Byram - coz there's no one else
Firpo - coz there's no one else
Ampadu
Rodon
Struijk -
James
Rothwell
Piroe
Georginio
Aaronson

Darlow
Cairns
Debayo
Gruev
Joseph
Crew
Gelhardt
Gray
Monteiro

Be very surprised to see Gnonto/Wober and Summerville unless we want to risk injury. Firpo maybe another that doesn't start then maybe Cresswell to RB and Byram to left

I don't see us beating Harrogate tonight, they've a decent side for a league 2 outfit, just bought a couple of additions as well and are well run behind the scenes.

Leeds need a great summer 2026 with outgoings and incoming players

That's a decent line-up, though I don't think Aaronson will start, as he was only back in training yesterday.

I'd like to see Joseph be given plenty of game time this pre-season to prove himself

Bare bones atm ... Geo to wing and Gelhardt to AMF then or Piroe plays the 10 and Joseph starts?

A 17 year old who was playing in the U18's last season. That says it all. We are *ucked this season unless we get the 3 quality players i have suggested in earlier posts. RB, LB, number 9

Might be best if we don't....might sharpen the heirarchy focus on what's needed

First pre season game usually means the 11 who start the game are swapped out with a different 11 for the second half.
Not sure we've got a big enough squad to do that at the moment though.

Well the pitch is in good nick, I got myself a ticket, we'll see how we get on.
They narrowly lost 2-3 to Huddersfield on Saturday, new signing scored as well.

We have 3 defenders ahead of Alfie Cresswell in experience - Monteiro, Moore and Debayo. If Alife is promoted it says more about how highly the club rate him than how desperate we are. That's like saying playing Archie Gray in the first team last season showed we were desperate.

I'm not sure Alfie is quite at first team level yet. But if he features in the preseason games, I'd take that as a positive rather than a negative. I'm sure everyone was enthused to see Harry Gray play for the first team earlier this week. I bet most of us saw that as a positive rather than desperation.

Harry can sign a professional contract in October I think, lets hope that gets done. Outside of that I wonder if we'll see Harry around the first team squad this season as a kind of salve for selling Archie

Maybe, I'd be surprised if he's better than Joseph at this point though and he's our #3 atm
