Some high ratings for our defenders, even though we were abysmal, sluggish & sloppy at times.

Going forward, we were very good.

I agree. How can you give such high marks to the defenders with so much sloppy defending and 4 goals conceded ?

I notice that Bornauw can play as a left or right sided CB. IMO he should come in for Struijk on the left. He's got the pace which Struijk lacks, and hopefully he can think and react quicker. With wing backs the left and right sided CBs have to be able to cover adequately, and we were sliced open numerous times down our left.

Perri needs to be binned now as well. What is it with these very tall keepers ? Meslier 6 ft 6 in and Perri 6ft 7 in, and neither can control their box.

There are so many more pacey forwards in the PL - you need defenders who can counter this.

5 - A couple of saves, flapping like a bird with crosses. Nerve-wracking to watch & doesn't fill me with confidence, I suspect our defence too!

9 - Solid defending, even when he came under some pressure. Unlucky not to score a debut goal.

5 - I'll bracket all three CBs together, as all three have to take responsibility for all four goals & the panic attacks every time Newcastle dropped a bomb into our box. Schoolboy stuff comes to mind as they stood around ball-watching, occasionally dangling a feeble leg in their attempt to clear the ball.

6 - Gabby got done for pace & allowed so many crosses into our box. One fantastic cross for Justin's header against the bar.

Ampadu
7 - Amps was physical all night, but not at his absolute best. Beaten in the area a couple of times.

Gruev
7 - Supplied a lovely pass for Aaronson second goal. Nice free-kick ahead of the penalty.

Stach
8 - Led a few counter-attacks and ate up the ground, with some great runs & passes

Aaronson
9 - Two lovely finishes & put in his usual work shift. Unlucky with the penalty
Gave the ball away several times, but that is part of Brenden's game, he never shirks the ball.

Calvert-Lewin
9 - Strong, physical, linked up, caused problems. Won headers offensively & defensively. Scored a goal & an assist for Aaronson first goal. What more could one ask from our No.9?

Can't be bothered rating our subs as they did nothing of note.
