Scores are out of 10. Man of the Match votes shown in brackets e.g. Struijk - 8.5 (4*)
Lots of decent games, very little quality. Like JiL thought Struijk edged it as he kept Thiago in check all afternoon while adding to our attack. Good flick on went unrewarded, lovely inch perfect touch pass in the first half.. Took a lot of stick

Darlow - 6 (hardly anything to do)
Bogle - 7 (some decent moment outside of a dodgy start)
Justin - 6 (just okay, but realize LWB isn’t his ideal position)
Ampadu - 6.5 (was pretty poor to start, but grew into the match)
Rodon - 7 (nice performance, better than Bijol’s, but definitely behind Struijk)
Bijol - 6 (okay, just okay)
Struijk - 8 (was a bit everywhere, even looked like our best chance to score)
Stach - 8.5 (MOTM)
Calvert Lewin - 6 (we need more from him)
Aaronson - 6.5 (underrated performance, IMHO…is truly our only creative outlet. Some really nice possessions and dribbles…that pass attempt to Nmecha would’ve been a sure goal had it come off)
Nmecha - 6 (think he’s wasted out on the left wing)
Tanaka - 6.5 (decent cameo)
Okafor - 5.5 (was clamoring for him to come on for either Nmecha or DCL at HT, but was a bit of a disappointment)
James - 6 (decent energy…if only there was some end product)

Interesting how this differs so much from the Leeds Live rating ;
" Pascal Strujik - Had a poor first half in the main, with loose balls and a yellow card picked up. Had a good battle with Igor Thiago, keeping him at bay in the main. Yet was left running back a lot of the time Brentford attacked. Went off after a blow to the head. 6. "
Their comment on Stach ;
" Anton Stach - Won a number of duels to spark the attack and also helped out going the other way. Looked like a German national team player. 8 "
Stach must be the most prized player asset at the club now. A player to build a future revamped team around if we stay up.

One persons opinion
Stach is our best player probably but Struijk is top 5 at his position in the division. He's been sublime for us, incredibly consistant with just one sub par performance and, for me, headed toward player of the season
Rodon and Struijk are one of the best CB partnerships in the division
It is interesting though that Rodon's ratings drop when he plays alongside Bijol... 8's become 7's etc

He a got a 9 from me vs Palace when Bijol played, Joe won everything from Palace's' set-pieces.
7/10 for Rodon last week was a ridiculous low rating, many fan's miss or can't judge our defensive work in a crowded penalty box area.

Rodon, Struijk, Ampadu & Stach are our most consistent performers, Anton is our quality footballer.

I changed my opinion about Struijk. He had a poor start to the season, and was dropped at one point, but at the end of the day he's a natural left sided CB with a " cultured foot " which allows him to make some great passes. He's had a good season overall. It's just that in this particular match, the Leeds Live guy thought that he had quite a poor game.

I think he was dropped as they wanted to not waste the money spent on Bijol. The plan was always, imo, to replace Struijk with Bijol but Bijol struggled badly left side so back in came Struijk and he's been top class ever since

I think the Leeds Live guy was way off base about Pascal. He was excellent. I shudder to think where we'd be this year without that core four of Pascal, Rodon, Ampadu, and Stach.
Even if you had a hard time seeing it during the game. when you take a look at the match stats you have to come to the conclusion that our central defense was outstanding. Only six shots (two on target) allowed all game and Thiago only an afterthought.
If only we had some creative players to match their quality.

You need to consider why we are having to play 3 centre halves if Struijk has been so good this season ?
The truth is it's Bijol or Justin coming into the team which has has enabled Pascal to show his qualities on the ball etc and if we went back to playing just Struijk & Rodon we'd be losing too many games as was happening prior to the change.
It's good thing by the way as now Struijk looks like a top class defender mainly because his lack of pace and poor recovery abilities are far less exposed.

I don't think it is though and I think Farke prefers a 2 and a DMF pivot, the lack of pace thing is a trope as it was with Firpo. He's not that slow. He's much quicker than Bijol, slower than Rodon. Probably on a par with DCL interms of pace.
This pairing reminds me of Whyte and Fairclough and I think we maybe doing better with a 4 man back line.

Well were weren't doing better with a 4 man back line and in fact slipped into the relegation places playing with it. So the evidence on the field is that we'd be much worse off playing a back four at this level with this squad of players.
13 games with a back four = 25 goals conceded @ 1.92 goals per game whilst achieving 0.85 points per game.
18 games with a back 5 = 23 goals conceded @ 1.28 goals per game whilst achieving 1.22 points per game.
Yes at times we have switched during games but they are the stats.
