Michael Zetterer - Signed
AI let me down this time.
According to Beren we are in negotiations for 31 year old former German youth international Michael Zetterer.
Started his career in the lower leagues at a Munich based club before he earned a move to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.
He spent the next few seasons as their reserve team goalkeeper doing OK whilst getting the odd bench place for the first team.
But for the next 2 or 3 seasons he didn't trouble the first team pitch
He then started with his hand and wrist problem and effectively spent years injured from the 16/17 season for 6 or so months then again the following season for 18 months.
He finally returned and spent time on loan in the Austrian second division then in Holland for an original 2 season loan for PEC Zwolle.
He played semi regularly for the Dutch side in his first real taste of top league football before they decided to cut his loan short early.
Over the next few seasons he went back to the Werder Bremen reserve side and finally made his debut for the first team before getting a chance the following two seasons to play regularly.
He earned decent reviews for his distribution and being a modern goalkeeper having finally got his chance for Werder Bremen and it earned him a move to Eintracht Franfurt.
Originally a backup he earned a chance for the first team and had a relatively decent season at Frankfurt last season.
However new manager Adi Hutter isn't convinced by him and is apparently after a new goalkeeper.
The player is keen to stay and fight for his place however as he doesn't want to be backup again, so quite why he'd come here who knows.
In terms of strenghts
He has been praised for his calmness under pressure when being pressed.
The accuracy of his short passing
And professionalism
Criticisms though
His shot stopping has been labelled poor
And his command of the box
Furthermore his long passing can be suspect preferring a slow patient short pass approach
Hence why Red Bull style manager Adi Hutter wouldn't be keen.
So would this be a good deal?

Re: Michael Zetterer- in negotiations
He better sign now I worked hard on that
I'd never heard of him, can only go on what I could find out from a quick read.
I don't really understand why he'd come here if he doesn't want to be a backup anymore.
Similar to Elvedi.
He seems very much a Daniel Farke ploddyball type, fair enough I guess.
Not sure why you'd want a goalie whose apparently suspect in terms of shot stopping and command of the area (they seem fundamental things you want).
But as a cheap number 2 doesn't matter much.
Few million surely no more?

Re: Michael Zetterer- in negotiations
Watched the video and he seems decent enough. Albeit the videos are going to show the best of him I didn't get the same bad feeling that I got when I watched the Perri highlights prior to him signing for us.
A couple of times where he pushed the ball back into a dangerous area but plenty where he held the ball and he looks to have good reflexes.
From what I saw of him I am fine with him coming in as our back-up.

Strange situation given the reliability of the source.
The players agent has denied the move is happening at all and reiterated his client wanting to stay in Germany

Re: Michael Zetterer- in negotiations
Guess Daniel Farke ploddyball put him off. The thought of back passes gave him the chills and those sideways passes to the wingbacks he felt were an accident waiting to happen, he would have preferred the long aimless kick up the field to nobody as being the least dangerous option.

Probably worried he may fall asleep mid match and concede a goal.Sean_Nile wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2026 10:02 am Guess Daniel Farke ploddyball put him off. Are you saying the Farke defence will be so good he could have a little nap?

Reports in Germany Frankfurt are basically shoving him out the door onto the plane.
Hence his agents comments.
Frankfurt want him out.

Re: Michael Zetterer- conflicting reports
I liked what I saw of him on the video you shared. I think if we can get him for less than a couple of million it is a sensible signing.

Re: Michael Zetterer- conflicting reports
Not overly bothered who we get as backup goalie as presumably they will barely play.
But a goalie whose weaknesses seem actually keeping the ball out of the net is weird
Few million though who cares
Any more than £2-3mil then nah.

Re: Michael Zetterer- conflicting reports
If we don't get a sunstantial wedge back for Perri, he won't be leaving! He will have to be happy as our #2. He is well good enough. I believe with the right coaching and some support, underneath it all, he is a very good goalkeeper. I believe his confidence has been severely dented! Until he goes, he is #2...

Re: Michael Zetterer- conflicting reports
Did you watch the video of him? I know it is obviously gonna just show the good bits but he seemed a decent keeper. When I saw the Perri youtube video last season I was worried as I saw a keeper who pushed the ball back into dangerous areas. Based on the respective videos I'd take Zetterer over Perri.

Re: Michael Zetterer- conflicting reports
I don't think he does the basic keeping very well. Reminds me of an outfield player going in goal for a game. Might make a couple of saves but doesn't do the basics rights.Victor_OTT_17 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2026 4:26 pm If we don't get a sunstantial wedge back for Perri, he won't be leaving!
