Too many substitutes often disrupt the flow & rhythm of our game, as it generally did last season.DDB220 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 2:20 pm I thought we looked more disjointed after the subs came on. Not sure what some people expect who constantly demand early subs. Damned if he doesn’t make the subs and now damned if he does. I thought bringing on Bamford was pointless though in hindsight. He looked miles off the pace. But the alternative is to let our biggest earner get splinters.
The facts for me are that we had more than enough chances to win the game. Our set pieces looked good for the first 15 mins and then became similar to last season. Poor deliveries a plenty from players in good positions throughout the game. It was a strange result considering the context of the game.
Around the 70th minute, my pal asked would make any changes? We both agreed there was no need to make any subs, however within minutes Farke had three of them stripped off & ready to go. From that moment the game died as a spectacle, with lots of fouls & messy play, the game was now even as we were down to Pompey's level.

Bizarre thing to say given that we missed a sitter, by one of the subs, at the death to win it. I do though agree that I wouldn't have taken James and Gnonto both off but perhaps Farke wanted us to try to attack more centrally.1964white wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 2:01 pm Well, that was unexpected.
In the end we got out of jail in a game we should have put to bed in the first 15th minutes.
Well done Farke for blowing any chance of grabbing a winner subbing both our pacy wingers James & Gnonto, killed any momentum we had left in the tank.

That's where we need a Summerville replacement. Last season, it meant we always had James or Gnonto to bring on from the bench. Plus Anthony although he didn't do much. We definitely need that 3rd winger from the bench.1964white wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 4:34 pm Too many substitutes often disrupt the flow & rhythm of our game, as it generally did last season.

Have to call out Rodon for their 2nd goal - as I usually heap praise on him
The way he got turned by the attacker was awful. Don't know how he ended up wrong side and then had to give away the free kick,
Shouldn't have been a yellow - unless it was for something he said to the ref. But his defending wasn't good prior to the free kick.

They do say pets take after their owners. It makes sense now that you were boasting about your hamster being able to get 4 big hairy men in him.

I hope Farke has learned a lesson today, stupid man!Cjay wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 2:31 pm Triple subs changed rhythm?
Our game was not great after the changes. Over-motivated maybe to show in this 25 minutes every player wanted to show their worth. Mistakes across the whole squad. Quite normal at 2-2 after 75 and you have missed chances, perhaps some lads get tired. Natural feeling you get that nervous. Brenden had mistajkes. Joel trying to rove his worth too much. Difficult to say what the case was. (Players fault)

It looks like Aaronson scuffs his shot there.

Amen brother. So many people say make subs and simply expect that the subs come on, are straight up to the pace of the game and win the game for you. Having made countless subs as a player manager it is far more likely that players come on and don't do as well as the player who was preferred to them in the starting line-up. There is usually a good reason that someone starts and someone is a sub.DDB220 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 2:20 pm I thought we looked more disjointed after the subs came on. That said one sub scored, should have had 2, and one sub got an assist. Not a terrible return even if it did alter the way we played (the same way that some fans don't like us to play anyway...)
I think it is a case of taking the point, not great but at least not a loss. Evaluate what worked well, what didn't and move on.

All would have been forgotten, even by me, had he put that away.
I’ve just watched it back, it’s horrendous, it really is.

Re: Leeds Utd v Portsmouth Match Thread
I've always insisted Aaronson will score goals this season, something we needed from midfield last season. Brendan has earned us a point today, when our game had gone to pot & we didn't even look like scoring, as opposed to the countless opportunities missed when we were peppering the Pompey defence in the first-half.Barlow Boy wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 4:49 pm All would have been forgotten, even by me, had he put that away.

We need to stop p*ssing about in the transfer window for that to happen, or else we'll lose more points, just as we did last August.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 4:36 pm That's where we need a Summerville replacement. Hopefully, realisation has come to the fore with our laid-back owners.

Gnonto (cross bar) and Joseph should both have scored too. Just as easy as the chance Aaronson had.1964white wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 4:57 pm I've always insisted Aaronson will score goals this season, something we needed from midfield last season. Afterall you can hold a hamster in one hand and a beer in the other. Win win.
