Match Thread Salford City 1-1 (9-8 pens) Leeds Utd - Post Match Debate

Post by Ellandback1 »

Tuesday 29th August 8:00pm | Peninsula Stadium
Caribou Cup, Second Round

Fresh from their seven goal thriller from Portman Road, the Whites find themselves back in action midweek, for a War of the Roses clash with Salford City in the second round of the League Cup.

The Ammies upset the odds by knocking out Preston on penalties in the previous round, but the league tells a different story. They've lost two of out their last three games including a 2-1 home loss against Accrington Stanley at the weekend, and currently lie 10th in League two on seven points from five games. The two sides have only ever met once before; which was four years ago in the opening round of the Caribou Cup. On that day, goals from Nketiah, Berardi and Klich made it a comfortable night for the Whites.

Just like he did against Shrewsbury Town in the opening round, Daniel Farke rings the changes with Darlow, Hjelde, Shackleton, Cresswell, Summerville and Gelhardt all coming into the side. Cody Drameh only makes the bench after his first half substitute appearance against Ipswhich. Struijk, Ampadu, Gray, Rutter and Gnonto all retain their places in the starting XI.

Sonny Perkins has joined Oxford Utd on a season long loan, whilst Povada, James, Bamford, Dallas, Cooper, Joseph and Firpo remain absent through injury. Leeds reached the 3rd round of the league Cup last term, before being knocked out by Wolves; can they progress even further this season?

Tricky one this regarding the team. Some will want to see a strong team out in the hope we can pick up another win. Wins breed confidence, but then again do we take chances and risk injuries. We dont have a big enough or strong enough squad just yet to risk that imo.

Darlow
Drameh
Shackleton
Ampadu
Cresswell
Rodon
Summerville
Gyabi
Piroe
Gnonto
McGurk

Farke did play some strong first teamers in the first round, and with injuries to contend with it doesn't leave a lot if you want to leave a lot out

Feck me I thought I'd fallen asleep for 2 days and missed the match. Then I saw we had kept a clean sheet and realised it was just a dream.....

This game will be shown LIVE on ESPN+ in the United States.

I would field a strong side for this. Taking into consideration injuries we don't want to risk. Here is my starting eleven:

-----------------------------------------------Darlow----------------------------------------------

Drameh----------------Cresswell-----------------------Struijk-----------------Shackleton

-----------------------------Ampadu------------------------Gray----------------------------------

Gnonto-----------------------------------Rutter-------------------------------------Sinisterra

------------------------------------------------Piroe---------------------------------------------------
