Result not the best, but you can see this side improving.

The way Piroe played against Ipswich, if Joffy played the same way but half as good we would have won. He needs a bit of confidence and a bit of coaching. I am confident Farke will improve him, as he will Gnonto, Cresswell, Gray and so on. This side is a long way short of where it will be in May.

This result just makes me feel restless and impatient.

Get off the kids case ffs. Penalties are a stupid and contrived solution.
Play extra time with a golden goal - first to score, wins. Play football, not entertainment - its not professional wrestling.

Watch the Sean Dyche penalty (9search terms) on YouTube. Now that is how you take a penalty if you can’t make up your mind where to put it.

Just some harmless fun for most. Penalties whilst a lottery are the quickest outcome. The golden goal was an abject failure.

I also think you will find entertainment is high on the USP of the game by the football authorities.

The best we have played in a cup game in many years apart from possibly the Cardiff FA Cup game last season.

As frustrating as it was, we were exciting to watch, the pace & movement & passing was excellent.

Route 1 football & lumping the ball in the box won last night.

The likes of Warnock, Allardyce, Dyche, etc would have loved Salford's victory.

Some crazy stats here:

"Thirty-three shots (EFL Cup high since August 2019) to five, 26 shots inside the box (cup record since August 2019), nine shots on target, 71 per cent possession, 21 dribbles completed and 70 touches in the opposition box (cup record since August 2019). The xG was 3.72 in United’s favour to Salford City’s 0.67."

Just shows we have better talent in the academy, than most of the average players we waste money on. Us and Barcelona have lost our way over the last few years, buying average players and ignoring homegrown talent. It looks like the tide is starting to turn again thankfully.

Obviously, you feel differently and I get that, but with a thin squad at best, we can do without even more midweek fixtures than we already have.
Exactly,

Wtf is it with these people huh, I'm convinced 98% of LUFC fans are fcked in the head.

Aren't you forgetting who's been taking care of our 'buying' over recent years.

As soon as we try some of the yoof, what tends to happen ?

Rutter once again disappoints. I told my wife no chance he hell he makes this. His effort could not have been more poor. I suspect he is one of those players that shows a moment of brilliance about every 20 matches or so. The rest of the time he's bang average or worse.
I said the exact thing myself about Rutter stepping up to take that pen.I wasn't filled with much confidence myself, something that he's totally lacking for some reason.
With all those efforts we should have seen the back of the net a few times plus we actually hit the woodwork at least twice. We lack a profilic striker or the others still lack confidence? Or just unlucky last night.

All cup competitions matter!! It's what football is about right, silverware eg. It would show the fans that we lufc are actually capable of winning competitions big or small. :soccer: :soccer: :cup :cup

Last 10 years of the EFL Cup Paul...

Citeh - 6 Times winners.
Scum - 2
Liverpool - 1
Chelsea - 1

They tend to win it with their 3rd string, not worth harming your squad for really in the 46 game Championship.

Let's say we concentrated on winning that then, and we rested players v Ipswich last weekend, can you imagine this asylum then ?

If you can't hack it at this level, it's time to move on.

Gelhardt & Hjelde comes to mind.

And what’s the stat on the FA Cup? Same probs.
Absolutely no chance of winning one. Nearly always ends in injuries to key players or embarrassing defeat or both.
9/10 by the big six. 15/20 finalists ditto.

I bet Salford get smashed at Morecambe this weekend.
100% correct 64 about the result against SW, so much more important than last night. And also as you say so many people go over board with their comments as soon as we loose a game, i understand its very frustrating but for comments like Farke is on borrowed time is ridiculous. But I'm thinking that comment was made in jest or simply to wind people up :)

I can't do with statements like that about the best coach we've had since Bielsa, you never know but, Farke could go onto emulate the great man Marcelo.

Some people are so impatient and want everything NOW. Its only a very short time ago we were a shambles of a club because of what on last season. We are slowly starting to unravel that mess with new signings and allowing Farke to start and put his stamp on things. It will take time, we are not going to become flawless anytime soon, we will keep having mistakes, keep loosing the odd game but as this squad gets better developed and Farke starts to sort out the team then we will become more of a force.
