I think we need to strengthen, especially if we go up. I just don't think it is as easy as people think to get a good quality 'back-up' to sign. If they are good they want to play, if they are good they are already playing.1964white wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 2:50 pm I have total faith in Farke, he's doing a brilliant job on limited resources, the simple fact is, he needs more back-up options, particularly defensively, if you can't see it, that's your opinion.
I personally feel Leeds will make a couple of signings next week, as injuries are kicking in & it's a long old season.
Oh, and I've never advocated for Cresswell or Hjelde to start, personally I don't think they are good enough, as is the case with several of our bench options. Farke doesn't either, as he rarely plays them. Some will get a game tomorrow.

Alexander Arnold has played as a cm a handful of times in his career.weasel wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 2:57 pm You do see Klopp putting Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield though........
You see Salah on the wing instead of as a through the middle striker.
He put Milner in just about every position there was short of the 69.
Ampadu has probably played as many matches at centreback as he has in DM in his career. He has likely also played alongside Rodon as centrebacks at international level. Just because a player plays in one position doesn't mean that is the only position they can play. Often players have ended up playing a position at school and simply stuck with it. Some PE teacher sees a lad with pace and sticks him on the wing or at fullback. Or say you are a youngster coming through the academy. Your position is striker but there are two strikers better than you in your age group. Your option is to be a sub or maybe try out another position where the competition for the place isn't as high. So you end up playing rightback and do so well that it becomes your position and you stay as a rightback but you still know how to play as striker and maybe at some point you end up back as a striker. Alan Shearer went for trials at Newcastle Utd as a keeper.
Mo Salah has always been a winger not a striker.
James Miller is unique.
Ampadu has said before his best position is as a dm, his record as a cb is dire, it doesn't suit him.
Every player has had multiple positions as a youngster but basically all of them have a position they are best in.
You can count on one hand the players who are as good in multiple positions especially at the top level.
Maybe get away with it in the Championship where you have better players than everyone else.
Wouldn't in the Premier League

It's not easy, especially as our first XI is so strong, more manageable for clubs with weaker squads.
Finding the right players to fit in is where a good recruitment policy is in place, I believe that is the case at LUFC since last summer.

Incidentally we have 17 league matches left and there are 14 weeks remaining in the season. Not the huge slog that sometimes it seems like.

Milner is not unique - you are unique in thinking that he is. Open your eyes there are lots of players who can play well in a couple of positions.Cjay wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 3:18 pm Alexander Arnold has played as a cm a handful of times in his career.

Almost every player has a specialist positon
Aren't many who can play multiple positions to the same standard.
Difference between doing a job and being equally as good in multiple roles.

As an emergency for a few games against mid table opposition.
But would I want him staying at cb vs Leicester and the better teams? No.
His best position is dm as he's said himself.

First home game for me since our promotion to the Prem. Tickets whilst in the Championship/ League 1, not a problem. Like gold dust now.

I consider myself very fortunate, I rarely miss a home game. Missing today due to illness, lost out on my ticket money & pre-paid coach fare

That damned Stewart Dallas was a square peg in a round hole... right back, left back, midfielder, winger.
You would have thought Bielsa would have made stability his number one priority... but no he continually played Dallas out of position.
Granted Dallas got lucky a few times and scored some wonder goals especially against City, but think what might have been if he had played in his natural position.
